Bale Forks For Stacking Round Bales

Posted a few days ago about stacking round bales vertically. Thanks for the responses and photos. The Worksaver squeeze would be handy, but I don't have a loader it could be used on. Have a few questions for those that use bale forks with two spears. What size bales are you stacking vertically? What is the horizontal spacing between the two spears on the bale fork? What length spears do you use? Ever have problems with the spears snagging the twine or getting hooked on the twine and unravelling it? Bruce from Can.--In the photos you posted, do you use the same bale fork on both the tractor shown loading bales onto the flatbed truck and the skid steer stacking bales in the hay shed? If not, how do they differ? Thanks.

I have a loader with a single long center spear with two short bottom spear/stabilizers.I stack 4x5 bales-2 on end and the top bale on the round side,as it came out of the baler.I spear the bales normally and as I approach where I want to stack,I start dumping the bale and it falls on edge. The 2nd bale I do the same way, only raise a little higher. The bale slides off the end of the spear and lands on edge on top of the 1st bale.Sometimes I have to adjust the 2nd bale with the spear while it is still tilted, but it is simple and quick and easy.My stack looks just like rrlund's pic.I use a CIH485 with a Koyker loader that I bought lightly used;works as good as I could ask for.My bil uses a set up like Bruce in Canada.I have stacked some for him too, with his skid steer. It's all in technique.Mark

Hi Suffolk1 .The bale spear on the tractor is the same as the spear on the skid, only the mounts are not the same. Spears are 40" apart and I think 3 feet long. I made them this way so I could use the on large round as well as Big Square bales. Never really had much trouble with twine or net snagging , but common sense must prevail, some folks can ruin a bale no matter what kind of spear they have.I don't have to handle big squares much any more but if I did. I would put an pipe frame about 3 feet high up from the top ,so I could carry two bales, oneon top of the other, with no danger of the top bale coming back on the tractor. Bruce
