Bought a trim saw

But wife doesn't know it yet. Yikes! She knows I was thinking about it but not that I was this close
to taking the plunge. I'll be good for quite a while as she makes herself scarce when a chainsaw
starts.

After reading the replies to my post I decided that I probably would always wish I had done
different if I went with anything but another Dolmar. I got a 35 and had him switch the 16 inch bar
to a 14. I don't need a 16 with the big Dolmar (it's a 111). It's a great runner and light. It was $250
but I had to add extra chains and things, so it was a little more. I'm planning on spending a day
here in the next few cutting dead trees out of the barnyard and road fence row. We will see how
she goes, but I am already glad I got another Dolmar instead of another. It's like tractors - if you
stick with one brand you learn their quirks a little better.

I bought a dump truck today. Wife thinks it is parked outside for me to work on. LOL. She did not ask, so I did say nutten .

Particularly if you can borrow it when you need it! Congrats, and hope it works out well for you--it sounds like you made a good choice based on your circumstances.

After she gets used to it mention that you own it. At that point it won't be appearing AND purchased at the same time. That means something completely different to a woman, btw.

every time my wife has a new dress/shoes/purse or whatever, i'll ask "where did you get that". she tells me "out of the closet". when I buy a tractor, implement, gun or what ever, all I need to do is get it into the shop before she sees it. when the wife asks about it, " I got it out of the shop". it works both ways haha

my wife's grand father bought a new 560 in 1963 he drove it from the dealer to the river bottoms. he kept it hid in the bottoms from his wife until it was paid for.

Who was that guy, Roger Welsch???, told in several books how to buy AC's and not have SWMBO get upset. He had the BEST advice. Basic idea is NEVER put them all in one place. New one by the barn, one behind barn, one outside shed, one in fence row. one under blue tarp.... DO NOT line them all up in a row... SWMBO will say it looks like a pile of hundred-dollar bills just burning up.

I bought a new Dolmar 510 about a year and a half ago and it's one of the best purchases I ever made. I just LOVE that saw! My next door neighbor bought a new Husqvarna a few months after mine and it takes him 1/2 hour to start it each time he uses it. He has had it in the shop more time than he has been able to use it. They will not fix it or give his money back. (Family Farm and Home)is where he bought it. I bought mine from a dealer in Gregory, MI (Gordies Power Eqpt) and Gordie has been great. He tells me how to fix my stuff so I don't have to bring it in. (Other stuff, not the saw)

Congrats.

For anyone else that is looking for a small/medium saw for around the house/farm work, Stihl has discontinued the very popular MS250 (replaced with MS251) and is running a special at $299 until Dec 31 or supplies are gone. The price includes 18" bar and chain. Pretty good deal.

I have a MS 251 and am not fond of it. I have never met anyone that does not like the MS250.

Bought a tow-behind cement mixer at an online auction yesterday. Mentioned to the wife on Wednesday that I was "looking at it". Yesterday, told her I wanted to monitor it after we got home from work. Showed her the price of a new one on a website, told her I wanted to pour a sidewalk outside of our 2nd home, etc. Explained what a max bid would be and how cheap that was compared to new. In other words, I eased into it and got her approval, by that I mean she didn't scream "he-- no!" With 10 minutes to go, I submitted a bid and won it. I started to re-explain how this was a smart buy. She just shook her head and said, "don't try and justify it, it's just another toy". I left it at that, she knows me well.

No way would I ever try and hide something like that. She does the finances and I trust that if she says "we can't afford" something, we probably can't.

Good choice. Wish I could find a new 111i or a Makita 520i new (same saw). Have had mine 25 yrs and still runs great with never an problem. Buddy and I usually cut together in pretty remote area. Wives don't like us to go alone. He uses another major brand. Has been through 2 of them. He is always impressed by how well it runs and starts no matter how long it sits. I will never buy anything else. Got mine and have never regretted it. Hardware store in Maybe Mi was closing. Needed a saw and guy I work with told me they had marked everything down. Got it, a case and 4 chains and a 6 pack of oil for 1/3 less than any other 52cc saw.. Glad I did.

Now that there is funny! My wife's aunt lives in ID. Her mom wanted to go and visit her sister. So the wife told me early this summer that she was going to take her mom out in Sept. Then she hinted that she would like me to go too. I really had no interest as her uncle, good guy passed away a few years ago. I told her I would go and then a friend turned me onto a D4 7U Cat. So a couple of weeks before the ID trip we went and looked at it. She made no bones about me buying it! Total cost? 2380 delivered to the farm! She knows it's just another toy!
