t/a on international tractors

what is a t/a elimination kit? How hard is it to put in and is it worthwhile? How much difference does it make on the tractor's lifespan?

I use the TA on mine, it is very handy feature.

The tractor would be worh much less to me with the eliminator.

They do wear out fairly regularly, but they aren't the hardest or most expensive to repair, so it comes out ok.

The middle aged TAs have some fixes that cost a bit more, but are much more durable, not sure what age tractor you are working with.

Anyhow, to your question, they just eliminate the hi/Lo of the TA, puts a fixed shaft in instead of the pawl and balls. Doesn't affect much else
other than you loose half your gears and shift on the go between the two.

The TA elimator is a 'solid shaft' that permanantly replaces the TA. To install the tractor must be split, just like a TA
job.Only you put in a eliminator instead of a TA. The Tractor now only has 8 gears instead of 16.Resale is probably reduced
some, but no worries of the TA going "out".

Ya know i just love this T/A eliminator thing as they almost cost what the T/A cost and around here a Farmall or I H tractor is worth about two grand less . I have tractors still out there working every day on dairy farms with T/A's that i installed thirty years ago or better . The T/A in our 1066 is just now starting to slip and it has been in there for about 25 years and the only reason that it is going out is due to one hired hand that thought that you used it to slow down while being pushed by a 30000 lb load of silage down a steep hill on one of the back roads or using it to slow down while coming up on a stop sign . I saw him do it and jumped all over him about it and his response was well I THOUGHT that it was easier then usen the brakes . IF and again i said IF you do not use it as a means of breaking you keep ALL adjustment up in spec. and you keep Clean OIL AND FILTERS in it THEY DO NOT GO OUT WHEN INSTALLED CORRECTLY . Years back i tryed selling a couple NICE non T/A tractors to satisfy the cry baby's that always complained at the sales that IF THAT FARMALL DID NOT HAVE A T/A in it i would have bought it , OK so i provided them with a nice 1066 with a factory non T/A and a super nice 856 with factor NON T/A . THE SAME GUYS WITH THE BIG MOTHS that always complained about the T/a's were the biggest B- itcher that the tractors did not have a T/A and were totally worthless . Around here weather your working ground or pulling wagons on the road it is a vary handy item to get you thru the hard spot or up over that hill with pout stopping at the bottom and trying to decide what gear will get you and the load to the top with out spinning out or running out of pony power.

I have to agree with others.

I don't do a lot of plowing or real bull work where I actually NEED it. But for me, just trying to pull say a baler uphill in road gear, from a stop at
an intersection with cars on all sides - it sure is handy. You can double clutch out of fourth, but if you're honest, you know that you always grind gears
doing that, at least a little bit!

You may of course already be perfectly happy with the tractor with no ta - personal preference. But you asked if it's worthwhile - to that I'd say
definitely not.
