Making progress on my Gleaner E (Pics)

I am getting closer to having my E and it's grain table back together to run beans. My goal is to be together to run the weekend of the 17th, got a long way to go. Had to repair many cracks and things along the way, painting the frame work and the auger floor black to stop the rust. Have all new bearings for the auger. My left stub shaft bearing was gone this slop caused the left bracket that holds the pitman arm to break in half, to repair I chiseled off the rivets and removed it to weld the break. Hopefully I can get it all back up where it needs to be and refasten it. I am not sure if I will try to use rivets yet or just some sort of plow bolt. Any thoughts? On the combine itself we are replacing the upper and lower ends of the clean grain elevator as they were badly rusted. I am going tomorrow (Wednesday) to pick up my freshly rebuilt starter and generator. So far here is the progress as of Tuesday around 2pm.

Gonna be sweet when you get her done and you use her for the first time :)

those were simple machines to work on. For all that work I wouldhave found a different machine or went with a bigger machine as cheap as they are getting.

Very nice work/progress on your machine. Making me miss my E I had. It was a little newer then yours, it had the rotary air intake similar to a K. I like your cab though, mine you had to reach out the window to engage the separator and unloading drive. Be sure to post some pictures when you get it in the field. If you look under the implement photos on this site and search Matt, there is 2 pictures of mine when I cut beans with it last. Good luck.

Looking good! Back in 1986, the seed corn company I was working for bought an E to convert to harvest our seed test plots. I spent quite a bit of time going through it then to get everything up and running right. We extended the frame and added a seperate tank that weighed and moisture tested each variety- 2 rows by 10 feet. It made you crawl through the plot, recording data on a note pad to be transcribed into a spreadsheet later. Oh, the good ole days!

Good lookin' machine. I broke my combinin' teeth on one of those, put a lot of hours on one and still run a Gleaner. I think I even have a spare rad for one around here....

My dad bought an "E" new back in 1969 and we used it up until 1991. Lots of memories on that combine...

Great Job you're doing. They were good machines of the day and nice to play with today!
