You go to a place, (sandwich shop) and waitress calls you dear, darling, honey etc. 2. Some guy at a (tractor place) calls you dude, honky, sailor, bub etc. I HATE THIS AND IT IS A MAJOR TURN OFF!!! AM I OLD SCHOOL???? WE WERE TAUGHT TO ADDRESS SOME ONE AS MR. SIR AND SO ON. Did have one the other day young guy addressed a state law enforcement officer I was with as OFFICER, THOUGHT THAT WAS PRETTY GOOD.

Told a waitress "my wife calls me "darling" you can just call me john. Walked by several troopers at a McDonalds w/my hands up and said "hans up dough chute", all had a good chuckle.

Once you correct them and you tell to call you 'Mr or sir' I have a pretty good idea what they'll be calling you behind your back and maybe to your face. Also you'll need to check your burger to make sure there isn't any 'foreign' matter in it(LOL).

It's you. When a cashier calls me honey, sweetie or any other way shows me kindness instead of acting like I'm in her way, I give her a big smile and say "Thank you". TDF

I don't mind them calling me dear or sweety as long as it's a gal of the female persuasion. If a guy calls me "mack", I usually reply by replying "Thanks Carl". They usually get the message.

No, it's not just you! I find that to be the height of disrespect! Makes my stomach turn! I don't like a guy calling me boss either! I am not any body's boss and I find anyone who calls me that means it in disrespect!

No offense, but I can about imagine what they said after you got by. They hear that kind of stuff every day and I'm sure it gets mighty old. Just like when someone has an unusual name and someone makes something of it and thinks its cute. They've heard it a hundred times and they just want to puke.

No its not just you, I feel the same way. It must be our age.
Dude seems to be the latest thing and it just makes me want to turn around and walk away.
A few years back it seem like Chief was the big popular word to use. I hated that too. I would respond with the fact I'm not even part Indian, yet alone a Chief.

During WW II soldiers who didn't know another soldiers name called each other "Mac". Heard my dad (Army Air Force) start a conversation with soldiers that way several times.

I'm old; don't mind it when a woman past middle age calls me "Honey", but when a teenage girl calls me "Honey" it doesn't set well with me. It happened last week while I was in the hospital; I had the thought that she heard some older woman do that and thought that she should do the same. Just didn't sound right coming from her.

One of the 40ish checkout girls likes my hair cut and often asks to feel the stubble on my head. I don't mind and my wife thinks that it's hilarious. Takes all kinds I guess.

What drives me nuts it the waiter or waitress says " How does your food taste to you?" I always want to say "Why? Did you spit in it?" or "What did you do to it?"
"How is everything or Can I get you anything else" is what I was taught to ask...

I like when Gals call me "Honey, or Darling " , seems just fine , and normal to me . Never had any salesman call me any of those names you have listed. Maybe I don't look like the type of guy they would feel comfortable using those labels on .

I've read where waitresses get larger tips by addressing men as honey , darling or other endearing terms. Also by touching men on the shoulders. I don't mind the honey or dear stuff but can't stand for them to touch me. I just don't like someone getting in my space.

There are a lot of things that annoy me in life (like rape, murder, politicians, etc) but this is one that is at the very lower end of my list.

Honestly can't remember a time in a bar/grill/diner/casual restaurant where the waitress [i:83424f7191]didn't[/i:83424f7191] call me hon or something like that.
just friendly non-pc communication between humans.

sorry to say that times have changed. I've had to modify my own speech in these days.
The.....'get me a beer too hon'... days are over unless you know her..

dude? lol...old joke...young people will snicker...if ya ain't a dude...what is ya...a girl?

I don't care if that State Trooper is younger than your grandson-------
His name is SIR!!!

I think that those names go just fine in a diner or lunch place, but would be out of place in a nicer restaurant. I wouldn't like to be called any of those guy nicknames. Once at a tractor pull I was sitting at the scoring desk fairly close to my friends wife. She leaned into me and rubbed her shoulder against mine to get my attention. I told her "my name is........", and got up and walked away.
