UPS Shipping??

I broke a part on my lawn tractor Thursday. Ordered the part and it was shipped immediately.
UPS Tracking shows it arrived in my city at 3:32 AM., today and will be delivered Monday!
UPS runs on Saturday in my town.
This is not the first time this has happened with UPS so I wonder why?

UPS trucks delivering Sat. were loaded Fri. night.
Your order came in at 3:32 am and will be loaded
Sat. night for Mon. delivery.

I ran into that same situation a few years ago. I asked the UPS office what happened, why didn't
they deliver it to my house on Saturday? Answer: When you see UPS delivery trucks on Saturday,
they are only delivering to Businesses.

If you really need it before Monday, I just drive to the distribution center and pick it up
today.

Take your tracking # with you.

Don't think I've seen them deliver on the same day they got it in the distribution hub in years. At that point I usually get an e mail saying it will be delivered the next day. And then I get an e mail saying it will be delivered the day after that which is when I get it.

Doesn't seem like it was that long ago that UPS was the fastest there was but now a day's I hate seeing something I need being shipped by them. FedEx is on top with the post office (USPS) right behind. UPS is days behind both. JME

Hi Think your self lucky your getting it that quick. The only time I will use them is to move parts in the U.S to the border drop ship guys, then
drive in from Canada to pick the stuff up and do personal import at the border. For them to direct import takes a week or so and a big pile a
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!.
The service here in Canada's prairies is terrible. The big brown van is a good advert for their service or lack of it here :) L.O.L

If I am given a choice, I will take USPS or FedEx over UPS
I have received many orders on Saturday from all shippers, but it makes sense that Saturday deliveries were loaded Friday night.

Just contacted local UPS and they said I could pickup Monday or Tuesday.
Guess I'll just wait.

Shipments on all package and LTL routes are loaded same day in the early morning hours,
That is how we offer next day service.
Pick it up in town A today.
Load it in a road trailer this evening.
Haul it to town B overnight.
Unload and load on a city unit in the AM
Deliver in that day.

But you got what you paid for.
UPS may work on Saturday but Saturday is NOT a normal delivery day.
It's what the call a Value-Added Service and cost extra.

You pay enough money and you can stuff delivered on Christmas Eve.
Saturday Delivery from UPS

John explained it right. They run Saturdays but just for next day service or a premium service you pay extra for. I have received Fed-x packages on Sat. but no UPS.
Your still doing better than me. My water pump on my mower froze up last Friday night. Couldn't get it ordered until Monday morning. They said Fed-x would have it to me Thrus. I received it Friday afternoon and got it going and mowed my yard last night. I still thought that wasn't too bad coming from Texas to Michigan. It was about as quick as a Kubota Dealer could do and half the price.

Not sure in your area but in my area only place get things from UPS on Saturdays are businesses. Plus as your said got in this AM so probably did not get on today's deliveries due to the time it got there

The ice packed meds that the pharmacy sends me get delivered on Saturday. They would be ruined in the AZ heat if they waited until Monday to deliver them.

Talk about ordering something and waiting for it to show up. I ordered from Cabela's last Friday. Normally things arrive in 3 or 4 working days. Well, when it was not here by yesterday, I got on live chat to see what weather it was shipped. Oh, yes, delivered on Tuesday noon. Whoa, nothing here. Contact post office, nope, get a tracking number. Well, got two, one from UPS and one for USPS. The package was delivered to a guy in Ohio with same name. I always lived, still do, in Minnesota. I had a problem ordering because I had some points built up over the years and wanted them applied to this purchase. Could not get the order correct on line so went on live chat and that proceeded to a phone call. The gal got my name and credit card number but must have just pulled his name out of the hat. I don't recall her asking me my shipping address, assumed she had it as I have ordered different items over the years. More to the story though. This guy in Ohio with the same name except middle initial does not pay his bills (of course, there could be another one there with same name also) and I have had collection agencies after me a few years ago for a student loan. Hey, I never had a student loan. Took two years to get several different collection agencies off my back. Get one off and who ever had hired them would just turn it over to a different collection agency. Then a couple months ago, I get a letter from an attorney in Ohio, wanting me to pay my real estate taxes in Ohio. Hope I straightened him out, h aven't heard. Still more. About 20 years ago, I got a package as a present. No name, no return address. It contained an IH 350 toy tractor on a truck. I questioned many , called the co. that was on order header and they claimed it was all paid for etc. I never took it out of the box for maybe ten years thinking someone would claim it or give me a clue. Now, I'm wondering, did I get his tractor and now he got my trail camera. They are sending me a new one and supposedly no extra charges and already charged to my account. I put some birthday money toward this as the kids always say to not just put it on living expense. Will see how this turns out.

pete 23---I have never had a "name mixup"
A few years ago, I contacted a parts company and requested a catalog.
Lady asked me to give my name and to spell it.
After doing so, she immediately told me my street address, city and state.
I asked her how she knew that and she said, "you are the only ***** ###### in the world, on record".

FWIW--I never type my actual full name on computer forums to be seen by readers, for the above reason.

When the place I work for is shipping into Canada there extra careful because of fines if labels are not correct. That maybe why it's slow. It always amazed me how we can load 5 plus semi's a day or more and some of this is sacks thrown in and it still is delivered next day. Part of this is also in order filling usually they pick that first and if it's not missing or lost it goes to packing there if they don't screw up it goes to shipping and hopefully on the right truck. I would hate to guess how many miles of conveyor there are. Plenty of places to lose something and that's only if the computer works our main computer is in Germany now that's a problem by it self

About 5 years ago coming home from work at 11:15 PM I hit a deer and knocked my left headlight out...I
immediately got on the computer and ordered a pair buy it now on ebay for less than half of what just one new
one would be at a GM dealer...I got free shipping...At 2 PM the next afternoon the UPS man delivered
them....They came from Lenexa,KS which is 110 miles away..

I believe that most people either don't remember or never experienced what it was like back in the 'good old days' when it came to living in a town or area outside the 'beltway' and trying to get anything that wasn't stocked locally. Just finding what was available in the markets outside of your local area was next to impossible let alone getting it to your door. I remember when UPS got permission to expand their deliveries to rural areas - Hallelujah! No more waiting on two hippies and a wheelbarrow to make their monthly run!

Now, with the power of the internet, our available search area for what we need is worldwide and UPS, FedEx or the USPS can pick it up and get it to us - I don't see a problem but ..... that's just me. 8)

I remember back in the 70s when I was into motorcycles. When I ordered a part, most were shipped by Bus. I am not sure if any of current day shippers were in business back in the day.
So, with that being said, we are much better off today.

I guess that it depends on whether or not whom ever paid for shipping paid for "over night", "next day", "two day", etc. It may be at your UPS depot, but that doesn't mean that it will be in your hands "over night" or "next day" when "next day" or beyond applies to business day. Which service was purchased? They don't all cost the same. If it's that important, then "over night" delivery service should have been paid for and requested.

Good luck.

I am not complaining about shipping being too slow. Tracking stated and still states delivery Monday.
I just didn't understand why since it was in my city Saturday and won't be delivered until Monday.
Thanks to you people, I now understand why.

Well, here is one for you to help support UPS.....
I ordered an item from eBay. Seller stated that he only shipped via FedEx.
Several days later, I got a card in the mail from FedEx asking for specific directions to my house. Indicated that the driver had been unable to find me. Gave a number to call.
I called the number. Nice lady answered and I gave her the directions that they had asked for. She said it would be given directly to the delivery driver.

Three days later, I got another card in the mail asking for directions to my house. Again, I called and gave very specific directions to my house.

Another 2 days passed, and I got yet another card requesting directions. ARGHHHH!!!!! So, I called again. Got the same lady on the phone. I started to give her the directions, and about half way through, I said "never mind. Just give it to the UPS driver. He finds my house every time!" Sure enough, the next day, my package arrived. Do you suppose I embarrassed them???

Just another comment to add....
When I was driving commercially, I had several run-ins with UPS drivers. They are rude, arrogant, and expect to go to the front of the line wherever there is one.

True story: I used to make a daily early morning delivery to a hospital of medical supplies. It was a tricky dock on a narrow side street. As I pulled up to back into the dock, I saw a UPS truck coming. As soon as I started moving towards the dock, UPS slid right in behind me into MY DOCK!!! I set the brakes, got out of the truck, and told the UPS driver that he had until I got back in my truck to be away from that dock or I would crush his truck with mine. He looked at me kind of funny, but he did move. Later, after I was at the dock, and he was at another dock, I told him that if he ever pulled a stunt like that again, I would not offer him the courtesy of warning him. Let him explain that to his supervisor as they towed his truck away!!

If I am not mistaken, an interstate truck backing into a dock has right of way over all other traffic except pedestrians until docking is completed. I was told that by a federal marshal.

Count yourself lucky. Had frozen semen from a polled bull out of a 53,000 lb record Holstein shipped from New York to Minnesota. UPS lost it- when it finally arrived 2 wks late it was warm. The shipper tank had been tampered with
as well. I was glad that the polled Brown Swiss semen shipped earlier was OK. Quite using UPS when they stated fussing about my shipping tank. FEDEX is much better, quicker and no issues-will never go back to UPS.

Jiles,

When we are out and about Monday through Friday, I'm sure that we all encounter or at least see UPS trucks all over the road. Think about it for a minute. When we are out and about on weekends, or at least Saturdays, do we see or encounter UPS trucks all over the place like we do during the normal work week, other than during the Christmas Holiday season? I don't, because they aren't all over the road on weekends for a reason. I won't say that there aren't exceptions, but the truth of the matter is that they aren't all over the road like the work week because like most of us, most of their employees aren't working because its the weekend and companies just don't like paying overtime to staff...fully, if there isn't a need or reason for it, and generally there isn't which is also why the U.S Post Office finally figured out that its about time to stop Saturday deliveries, which they say that they are going to do as well. UPS working on Saturdays? Sure, a skeleton crew, probably part timers at that, not on overtime, or possibly full timers on overtime for the exception delivery that has to be made, no exceptions. I as a telephone repairman/installer do work on weekends if and when its scheduled ahead of time, or an emergency call out, and there is some serious overtime pay involved when I do...but like most people, I don' work weekends and my company doesn't staff full staff on weekends either. For the most part, people won't see my truck on the road on weekends anymore than they see UPS trucks or FedEx trucks on the road on weekends, although there ARE exceptions. Besides, you said that you have a tracking number and know where the UPS place by you is. If Monday delivery won't work for you and since you were available yesterday and they were open... Just a thought.

When you get your part Monday, use it in good health. Take care.
