time warner cost getting out of control

Use to be able to negotiate with time warner for monthly cost after a one year deal, but no more. I would threaten with direct tv, and would fold like an accordian. I am serious now about going direct tv, had it yrs ago, but being in pa & being a ny yankee fan, they would block out games, so i paid the penalty & went back to TW. My monthly cost went from 153 to 283 with internet, 3 boxes/dvr, and showtime, cinemax, hbo. Last yr it was 143, so i paid the extra (153)& they threw in showtime, cinemax, hbo.

Awfully expensive to be addicted to sportsing. I could sure find a lot of stuff I'd rather have with that $3000/year you're blowing on television.

DLMKA- REALLY???? So, it's up to you to pass judgement on how he CHOOSES to spend HIS money???

Sorry for being so outspoken about this but, that just flew all over me!

I had Dish. After the 14th receiver gave up, I gave up on Dish. Their equipment in my area was cheap refurbished Chinese JUNK. The first receiver they installed for me was broken right out of the box. Technician came to replace it, and the next two that he brought in were bad right out of the box. The last one went right to snow while I was watching it. They wanted $39.95 to repair/replace it. That was the last straw.

Not meaning to step on any toes, BUT...... the day will NEVER come that I would pay out that kind of money to sit and watch TV. It simply is not that important to me. And, for that extra $3000 a year that you are paying out for "sports," couldn't you just go to the events you want to see? Then you can pay $7 for a hot dog and $12 for a beer to wash it down with. Hey. as long as you are literally throwing away money, why not do it right?????

He was looking for a way to save money. Put it all in your pocket and end up more productive too.

I'm in a huge minority of my age group. I'm 34 and have never once in my life paid a cable or satellite bill. My kids don't watch annoying programs and emulate the bad behaviors and attitudes on a lot of the television programming for kids. We have a TV with antenna and get 13 channels for free. I stay in hotels when on business travel and can flip through 200 channels and still not find anything worth watching.

I was one of the first around here to have a real satellite dish (10 diameter) after a windstorm blew
tree into my regular antenna and ruined it.Technology changed and everyone started to go to the
small dish (2' or less). Program providers all left C band and went black a few years ago. Instead of
converting to small dish and accepting never ending price increases, I got a new, better quality
antenna on my still standing tower. Luckily we are located between 3 TV markets and receive
broadcasts from them all (3 feeds per channel). A lot of people believe that cable or satellite is the
way that has always been in use. These people don't realize that the letter "B" in all the network's call
signs stand for BROADCAST. Everything is no charge.

I have no TV and no bills to go along with it , or should I say without it. I do not care to watch the junk sit coms , reality shows fake news broadcast , or silly sports with there never ending chase for some meaning less cup. Not to mention the brain washing advertising . Bruce

Same age, and neither have I. I overheard someone in
walmart last night "that's the sound bar the tv is
$1600". I thought wow I could buy all the parts I
need for my trucks and have half of them put on for
that.

My tv gets one channel. DVD. Two if you count
Supernintendo.

I have dish, too, but they aren't any better when it comes to loading the packages up with stuff I don't care to watch. We have to pay for the 250 channel package to get the 40 channels we like to watch.

Everyone's entitled to his own opinion. I agree with DLMKA - $3000 a year to watch TV? Waste of time and money.

I maintained a private cable system for the local VA hospital. The volunteers paid the bill for programming. At the wholesale level those junk channels cost 2 cents per set per month. ESPN cost 3 or 4 dollars per set per month. That gives you an idea of their profit margin.

I have Comcast here..which I think is now part of Time Warner but I hate paying $80.00 a month for basic cable! I have thought very seriously about turning the cable off and getting the internet service and getting a Roku box. I have talked to several people that like them. A Roku box let's you get your tv thru the internet. A lot of channels for free.At least if I do that I would have tv and internet. The only internet I have now is my phone.

I get 14 free broadcast channels. That is more than enough to keep me entertained. Maybe when I get too old to drag my butt out of an easy chair I will want more...but not yet.

Got tired years ago paying to see commercails that I switch channels to NOT see.
Dropped cable and get 16 channels from an antenea that cost me $3 to build.

What I don't understand is why we, the customer (I should say you I don't pay for TV), can't in this day and age walk in and say I want these channels instead of having to pay for all the ones we don't want. The technology is here. Why can't we do that. If they did I would hook cable up.

Agree on both counts really. I dumped it when I was spending $41 a month on stuff I did not watch anyhow. Agree it is each individuals choice to spend money how they want, but when I started reaching nearly $100 a month I started dropping services then realized I really did not have much left worth paying for, so dropped it and now have a WD Live streaming box, watch, I do subscribe to Netflix for about $8 a month, and have a pretty good collection of movies we watch, and plan on getting an over the air antenna up soon, and that should be all we need. Where I live it will cost me around $200 or more to get a decent antenna and amp, but I do not mind a one time expense and if I own it.

Cable is not available to me. We have an antenna and a converter box. We get 30 to 40 channels free.

The good news is now days you can..... Sort of with a catch. If you use a streaming device you can pick and choose what shows you watch
and when you watch them. Some channels can be streamed live but why would you when you can pick and choose via Netflix, Hulu, ect.

I don't see myself going back to regular sat tv and their expensive packages with leased equipment they will not fix.

The down side for many of us on here since I assume many of us are rural is getting fast Internet connections to support things like this.

Dang, I gave up when my DirecTv went to $95....and that wasn't a great package.

Still pay $45 for internet(gotta have it anyway), and am spending about $18/ mo for Amazon prime and Netflix.

Put up an antenna, getting 34 channels (a lot of duplicates on the PBS stuff though)

Works OK for us

The best thing is, now directv is offering us deals they wouldn't give us when we were regular paying customers. I just say, "Lemme think about it...nah"

I dumped them all quite some time back.
a few over the air channels, netflix, and dvd's get me by.
This winter when I go hibernate, I might give that SlingTV a try.

My son pays the big bucks cuz he is a huge sports fan...always has been...his money.
I watch a few games even though I don't really care.., so I can talk with him and share his interest.
....and I live in the Buffalo broadcast area....rabid Bills fans..
don't follow them?...ya won't be able to join any conversation for 4 months...LOL

as far as money...lots think my old tractor hobby is silly money spending.....
and right here on YT....very often....food posts..it's just fuel and ends up in the toilet.....now [i:0a78a2bcce]that's[/i:0a78a2bcce] a silly thing to waste money on...whatever is cheap works just as good.
