Yes in my opinion. I just did and what an improvement. It took a while to download but as you say it is free and Microsoft doesn't do that often.

I had windows 8 on my lap top and didn't like it. W/10 is a little better but still a learning curve. It tries to think for you.

POS. If you want a usable option, like office, or to open most files, it costs you through the nose.....

How is Microsoft making money on this give away. Do you have to upgrade other programs? Get a new computer . Where is the catch??

I'm still using XP and for as long as I'm a Microsoft customer, that's as far as I'm going. The company lap top has 7 on it and I'm not thrilled with it. Eight? Never tried, but the general consensus is that it stinks. Ten? Supposed to be so robust...that they just plain ol' skipped Nine. XP is slow, but I don't watch TV on my computer, so...

Good luck. Tell Bill Gates not to call me, I'll call him if and when...no, I won't.

Can you run word/excel from windows vista? They charge for windows 10 with word/excel & would like to buy a new computer, but dont want to pay a yearly charge for it.

You can still buy regular Office and not pay monthly. Or use Google Docs or LibreOffice for free, both can edit Office docs.

With 10, I suggest this. https://www.safer-networking.org/spybot-anti-beacon/

I'm running w10. I like being up on things. I recommend if you have w7 stay with it until they stop supporting it. If you have w8 then it's up to you. If you're getting along ok with 8 keep with it. If you liked 7 better then you will like 10.

I switched to win 10 but went back to Windows 7. I had some issues with Windows 10. I have been told that if your computer is 3 years old or less windows 10 works well, otherwise you are better off to stay with your old OS. Years back I would say I was more of a "techie". I wanted the latest OS and didn't mind working with it to get it to work. The computer was the "end" instead of a "means to an end". Now I like to log on and check email, play videos, check the forum and do whatever without having to work out problems. Windows 7 does that for me, XP, Win 98, 95 etc were good in their time also. One of the selling points for Win 10 is that it will make your computer work with other devices you my have which will eventually have Win 10. I think that is why Microsoft is giving it away, so you will buy more devices with Win 10 in them. Also because from what I have been told Win 8 was not great.
