AC 7010 PTO and shift cables

I tried posting this in the AC forum but didn't get any response, hoping someone here can help.

My Dad's 7010 has a couple issues we are looking to address. The first is the PTO doesn't always want to disengage. When it happens the tractor must be shut down and then it is fine. It also seems harder to engage the PTO, a mechanic at the dealer he talked to said there is an o-ring that can cause these symptoms. Does this sound likely or anything else we should be looking at?
The other problem is with the power director transmission. It has been getting harder to put it in gear, mostly trying to shift into low on the range selector. Once in gear everything works fine, I am thinking it is the shift cables, does that sound likely or is there something else I should be looking at? The tractor doesn't get used a whole lot anymore, but it is used for the snowblower so we would like to get it fixed before winter!
Thanks,
John

cant help on the pto, but on the low high range shifter, its probably the cables. my neighbors 7060 was having shift troubles just like you are. took the covers off inside the cab and also a panel on the floor in front of the seat. build up of chaffe and corn stalks, and mud. re lubed and re-adjusted the cables and all is working good. there is also a trans brake that activqates when you fully depress the clutch to stop the trans from spinning to allow easier shifting. the adjustment is just forward of the clutch pedal, i think outside the cab. if the tractor is in motion, do not depress the clutch fully as the brake is not designed to stop the tractor. it will wear out fast.
