Ford 6000 with 2 row corn picker

I mainly post stuff on the ford board but thought you
guys would like this too. Got this picker out of
Muscatine, IA. Gave it a test yesterday and it
worked great. Gonna pick more after we open the
rest of the field with the combine and get some
video and more pics then. The picker has dealer
stickers from Economy Implements Inc in Urbana,
IL. Anybody remember them?

That's an awful nice looking setup. Dad has a picker like that. With the exception of the last few years it has always sat in the shed and was only used 2 seasons I think. How long did it take you to mount it?

I've never operated a mounted picker, but I can imagine that it would be a really dusty and VERY noisy operation. I'd love to try it some time just for the experience.

Nice looking setup.

Thanks for posting the pics on here, I like it! My grandfather had a ford picker he use to mount on a 971, had the, I guess you would call them concrete coated rolls?

Nice. Gonna use it enough to get it shiney, or just take a few layers off the snouts?

It doesn't take too long to mount once you have the tractor ready and the mounts on it. What tractor did your dad have that picker on?

Tom you are right!!! I had a single row Ford snapper and had it mounted on a Ferguson TO-20. I was dustier than when I round bale hay,and that's saying something. I did like the fact that you didn't have to look back like you do with a pull type picker. That Ford picker of mine is gone although there is still part of another one in the fence row. I got lucky...a friend of mine planted his corn on 30" rows but he hadn't bought a picker yet. He went and bought a New Idea two row picker, but he didn't pay attention to the fact that it was a wide row picker!!! I plant my corn on 36" rows. So he was either going to have to trade with me for the Ford picker or pick it all by hand,so we traded even although I felt bad and threw a Husquvarna weedeater in on the trade. I did like the little Ford picker but I don't think I would trade back....lol. Ford puller, wasn't the earlier red two row models more rounded in the front where the tractor grill is? I was thinking they was,I assume they made the later blue ones more square so they could fit the Commander series and later square 1000 series Fords?

Those were quartz covered rolls. I know exactly what you are talking about. They was an option over the regular rubber sleeve snapping roll. That rubber wears down pretty fast and last time I looked that rubber sleeve was about $150.00 if it's even still available anymore.

pretty nice ,./luv those commanders ,. very unique, and ahead of their time ,.sadly, for some , not the best reputation for being trouble free

The first red ones that came out were more square on the top of the heads and the nose was not as tall.
They changed to this style in 61 which is more rounded on the heads and taller in the front. This style
was the same till the end. They were the same on 900's through 5000's except the bigger tractor kits had
extensions to make the picker heads longer at the top and the nose had extensions to clear the front of
the tractor. They also made kits to put them on almost all brands of tractors. We've got 2 red ones that
are this newer style running one on a 961 with an 8 roll husking bed and one on a 981 diesel with the
sheller on it. I've got another blue one with mounts for a 4000 3 cylinder row crop but don't have one of
those tractors, Yet!!! lol. We've got an old style red one but it has been outside way too long. If you
haven't seen them check out my videos on Youtube. I'm ford9000puller on there too.
