No! Not my boots!

I cut firewood today in the timber and ended up falling and spraining an ankle pretty good. I will survive, but my boot did not.

These are my favorite pair of Rocky waterproof work boots. I wear them everyday and have for about 6 years. They are still water tight. I have three new pairs as replacement but I don't like any of them for one reason or another.

I cut/tore the leather all of the way through about where my pinkie toe is. I could see my sock. Does anyone know of a way to mend leather? I am honestly going to call Rocky Boots tomorrow and see if they will repair it if I send it to them. I'm guessing not. Who wants an old boot back from a hog farmer in Kansas when we could just sell him more new pairs!!

I've honestly considered a tube patch. It ruined my day. I guess RR was right. Work on Sunday and repair on Monday.

I know how you feel, I wear a pair of boots for as long as I can. Hate to break in a new pair.

We have a fifth generation boot shop in town. If they can t repair a boot nobody can, cheap they are not, but very good. I can look up their # if you want it(they sell Rocky too). I bought a new pair of Carolinas from them two weeks ago, they offered to repair the old ones till they saw how worn out they were. mail is open(I will check for a web site for them(supper is on now)

It is not so much the leather, as trying to repair the waterproof liner. At this particular point in time, I am finding Danners to be quite comfortable. That does seem to change very few years though, doesn't it? You find a brand/stlye you like and the next time you buy the same ones (if they are still available) they are a piece of crap. I believe it must be one of the laws of relativity or something.

Sew a patch over the rip. Get a scrap of leather, an old boot tounge works well and use a leather awl to sew a patch over it. http://www.tandyleather.com/en-usd/product/sewing-awl-kit-1216-00.aspx

If you dont want to do it yourself, a cobbler, harness maker, custom belt maker or holster maker all should be able to help you.

I Live about 20 miles from Rocky in Nelsonville Ohio and I don't they do much in the way repairs anymore. I think a local cobbler would be your best route

I know how you feel, I had a pair of new Carhartt pull on boots that I was wearing for the second time. I was doing about like you, cutting wood, and I tripped on a stick under snow while cutting. I run my saw right through the sole on the toe, turning the stitching holding the leather upper to the sole into shreds. Good thing the steel toe stopped it from going any farther.

You must not have seen my post about taking care of your body, more specifically your feet. I am getting over a bout of plantar Fasciitis. You don't want it. Boots that have been worn every day for six years will cause it. You need to be able to walk. Ditch those boots that feel good even though they are worn out. You need to be able to walk. You need to be able to walk. Get it?

Oh Lordy, no! In fact, I was so busy sitting down and not throwing up from the ankle that I didn't realize it right away (it is the foot opposite of the ankle). I was cleaning up to go home and happened to see it. I just stopped and stared at it for a while. I still can't bear to look at it. All over a $200 pair of boots. How dumb. I didn't get that worked up when the $1200 wobble box went out on the combine. Lol

notjustair- Well, if the chainsaw did that to your other foot/boot and it cut through enough to see your sock, I think I'd be praising the Lord and saying thanks.

If I understood you right, you narrowly missed a bad outcome.

I hope you mend up.

notjustair- I am sorry. I am making too many assumptions about how your boot became cut/torn.

Sorry for jumping to conclusions without all the facts.

My humble apologies.

I don't have water proof boots so when it's wet where I'm going, after I put my socks on, I wrap my feet in plastic grocery store bags and then put my boots on. My feet stay nice a dry all day. If it's cold and wet enoough for two pair of socks, I put the bag between the layers of socks. An extra positive with this is the bags get an additional use before heading to the local landfill.
