Snow Fence??

With Winter on the horizon, I'm planning to put up snow fence this Fall. I have everything needed but need to know. How far away from the driveway to erect it? My drive is East/West and the wind comes out of the North.
I'm thinking about 40 feet.

What I hear really helps is to put two rows of it up.
One about the same distance behind the first that you
put the first away from your driveway.
Hope that makes sense.
It gives the wind a second landing spot for the snow.

40 would be a minimum. In western states, the fence is usually 200 to 250 feet away. Strategic Highway Research Program
National Research Council indicates that 35 times the height of the fence can be expected for the drift on the lee side, and 15 times height on the windward side. A 6 foot fence will deposit a drift that tails off at 210feet down wind. Jim

After the first good snow I take a tractor with a blade on front and plow a couple of ridges to catch the snow before it reaches the driveway.
Basically does the same thing as your snow fence, I do this 80-100 feet from the driveway.

unless you get some really bad storms i think 40 will work for you. i got tired of the drifts and planted a hedge and i'm not much over 15 feet at one end and it works great....

Most are installed to drop the drift right in the driveway. Just too close. What would be better would be to install one about 250 ft away followed by anouther 50 feet away. I see a lot that are only perhaps at most 25 feet fron driveway. What is hard to make one work is when the drifts come almost parallel to drive, perhaps at a 25 degree angle from drive.

I made a snow fence out of...snow lol. I had plans of putting a snow fence across the lawn to keep it off of the driveway and yard, but it wasn't sturdy enough. I ended up piling snow on the lawn when I scooped the yard off. It worked well and come spring time I don't have to take it down ;)
