Toro Z-Master 2000 Opinions?

I posted this here because Garden tractors doesn't get the response this board does. Anyone have an opinion on the Z Master 2000 Commercial? Its not truly full commercial. Sort of Toro's entry level into the HD line. Any of you guys got one? I really like the demo I have.

My next door neighbors brother in law has 2 of them. My neighbor says he always has to loan his Country Clipper Z turn to him because the Toros are always breaking. He was not detailed about the problems.

They are good if your mowing your own yard and it is under 2-3 acres. They are NOT a commercial mower. People also complain about them being nosier than the top of the line Toros. For a $4000 mower they are pretty good. Just do not think your getting a heavy duty commercial mower your getting a mid to upper end residential mower. Resale would be an issue as the Toro residential line does not resale well.

I looked at the 2000, 3000, and 5000. I really like the 3000 with unitized hydros-a true commercial machine. One dealer has a last years 5000 he sure would like to move that I can get for the price of the 3000. Just trying to justify the extra $2500 is hard. But I always over buy.

Tom if you over buy a commercial unit and only use if for your own use and it lasts 10-15 years that is better than a consumer unit that last 5-7 years. I am usually like you as well. I buy the best I can afford and then try to make it last for decades. Until the last few years when I have been trading/selling some used lawn mower, I was mowing with a 1996 JD 325 mower that I bought new. So I mowed with it for right at 15 plus years. That would have been almost two acres each week for that time.

I have a Toro Z-master, way older than those models though.
Kawasaki engine in mine. I bought it used from a lawn service.
I've replaced the belt and one pulley in four years or more.
This isn't the cheap stamped steal frame with a tin deck model.
I would probably shy away from those in any brand unless you
have a perfectly flat yard with minimal bumps.
You won't be sorry for buying quality as long as you maintain it.
If you spend big bucks and don't change the oil, well......

We've got one used to mow a couple acres at the church. Haven't had any mechanical issues in 5 years or so.

Not real impressed with the handling, seems front heavy and the front wheels are too far forward and far apart. It will not mow on sloping ground!

The tires are odd size, expensive and refuse to hold air. I replaced the front with flat free, the rear, just assume one or both will be flat every time! Next step is to have the rear foamed.

That's a decent mower, but not an all out commercial. I have Toro's and Exmark's for my crews and a step up or two from that one might be a good idea if you like to overbuy. My opinion is that I like the "older" ones without the unitized setup. Filters separating important parts, a pump goes bad it probably won't grenade the wheel motor, etc. There are low houred commercial ones out there if you look around. I find 2-3 a year. We thoroughly work ours over and they last a long time with maintenance. Some of mine get 400-500 hours a year and keep going. JDseller is correct, that 2000 won't have a good resale if that matters also. My 2 cents. I have my favorites on engines also if you want my opinion...
