MH44 hydraulic upgrade plan

I want to make the hydraulics more usable on the tractor, the current pump is good for 6 GPM and 1100 PSI. I lucked out, it appears the existing pump uses a standard A flange mounting. Pumps are measured in cubic inches per revolution, I took the 6 GPM, then back calculated it to .97 cu in. I searched hydraulic pumps and found one with the same flange that is 1.95 cu in, which should give me about 12 GPM. The new pump is good for 2500 PSI, I do not know what the rest of the system will handle, so I will install an adjustable pressure relief valve and set it at 1200 PSI. It looks like the gear on the existing pump is integral with the shaft. I will cut the shaft off, bore out and broach the gear for a press fit on the new pump.

This looks pretty straight forward to me, at this point.
 
It sounds like it will work,, the old systems were not made for much over 1800 psi on most of the tractors built back then,,and you know what the result will be by finding the hi limit. I am not familiar with your system,,but they were all sorta the same in pressure limits at that time..the increased flow would help a lot..
 
David you stated that you wanted to use your tedder with the MH44. If it is hydraulic fold you will find 1200 PSI may not fold it. Most stuff is made for a minimum of 2000-2250. Almost all of the newer tractors are in the 2500-3000 PSI systems. I have trouble with the new TMR wagon in that the JD 4020s will barely fold the chute up at the beginning. The newer tractors have no problems.
 
If your gonna run it off the cam gear, at the higher pressure, there's a possibility of breaking the camshaft. Front mount pump set-up might be a better way to go.
 
I plan to set the new relief at 1200 PSI, that is safe for my steering and other hydraulics, the additional flow will make the steering work right at all RPM's.
