Where's all that rain when ya really need it?

Rod weeder, common in the drier areas of the country. Pulls up the weeds without disturbing the soil too much so that the soil won't blow in strong winds.

Called a rod weeder. Smooths the ground for planting and gets rid of any lingering weeds.

That square rod runs right under the surface and spins backwards to forward travel.

Never seen one. Guess you learn something new on here everyday. BTW its getting dry here in Indiana also.Record rain in july tho.

(quoted from post at 06:40:43 09/03/15) What causes it to spin backwards? Seems like it would turn the other way if it is free-wheeling.

It is chain driven off the wheels. Lots of them out here in wheat country.

If you look at the rod itself you will notice that there are three driveline enclosures that are driven by some of the wheels. You will notice that there are three pto shafts (white) that go from adjacent wheels to the top of those enclosures which I am guessing is a sprocket and chain housing.

East pa, dry as a bone. An easy 2" of dust on the ground. Can't walk anywhere without stirring up a dust cloud behind me. There's a 30% chance tomorrow, but every time that happens we get nothing. The only thing in the past 2 months was just over 3 weeks ago, we got 4" in 6 hours, but it ca,e so fast it rolled right off, nothing sunk in.

Interesting implement, I've never seen one. It's getting dry here in NAR too. We had plenty of rain until about a month ago and the roots are shallow so it appears worse than it actually is.
