My daughter who lives in Tennesee, her husband is in the military there, came up for a visit today. I was in the shop working on a piece of a trailer that needed straightening and they thought it was awesome that I could straighten the piece with just a hammer. So I gave each of them a hammer and a piece of scrap and showed them how to bend it and then straighten it. They must have spent an hour with those pieces bending then flatening them again. I showed them on an anvil first, but they didn't like waiting to share so I showed them how to do it on the edge of the concrete. Those poor pieces of metal will never be the same again! Lol.

Here is also a short video of it, we were all having a great time.

Jon, I want you to know I appreciate all your little tid bits of advice that you post. The dump trailer square tube outside round shaft is my favourite, and I always look forward to the morning funny (as if there isn't enough silly stuff to see on the internet)
Those could be my kids ( my son is 5 and daughter a bit older then them at 10) its great to see them wacking metal. Not only do they learn something but they have fun doing it.

Thanks, Grant

Just think, now there are three more people that know what an anvil is! At least when I was young everybody knew an anvil was what Coyote dropped on Roadrunner. Now days...

They will remember this...!
I was showing my daughters 24 year old boyfriend some woodworking, as he expressed an interest but had no experience. I thought I had started at the basics when he asked me how to read a tape measure. I realized that if you don't do it, you probably don't know!

At least you will know who had your hammers last. Two grandsons live 100yd away from me,I have been looking for the axe for three years. :)

When our kids were young and we went to tractor shows they would watch a blacksmith for a long time, totally engrossed. Now it happens with the grandson.
