ATV question OT

I have a Honda 4x4 ATV that I like except for one issue. When making sharp turns the rear tires rip up the turf.
I try to avoid making the sharps turns as much as possible but sure wish there was a magic cure for the problem.
Polaris has one wheel driving on the rear to avoid this issue. Its my understanding that as soon as the rear
wheel slips, it automatically goes into 4 wheel drive. Anyone got any solutions or comments other than trading for the Polaris!

A lot of quads have a solid rear axle. About the only thing you can do is put less aggressive tires on it.

The majority of 4 wheelers do not have a differential they just have a solid rear axle. So like Chris posted there is little you can do other than tires or not turn short.

These guys are right...

That is about the only reason I kept my Kawasaki! a guy gave me this OLD Bayou 300. 2wd, but it has a TOTALLY cool locker in the rear! It is 2 wheel drive, and will turn on a DIME until you dig out, then, moving or not, pull a little lever up, and it just "clunk" grabs up and goes!!!

We have modded the carb a little, it was a 300 engine, still is I suppose, but it flat out runs!!! Wheel standed on pavement! :p

Anyway, my point is, there were a few companies out there that made split rear end fourwheelers, but, I couldn't tell you who.. We had an OLD honda that was set up like this. Horrid machine, but in hind sight, I sure wish we had kept that rear axle.... :/

Well don't trade for a Polaris! I have a 325 that has been a thorn in my side since it came off the lot. I hate that thing with a passion. All I use it for anymore is chasing rogue cattle. It still looks like new but I hate being on it. It's fairly well worthless if the temp is below 45 degrees. It doesn't even have differential - it tears everything up when you turn. I started it the other day (had to use the cord as the battery was dead) and realized the last time I started it was January.

Watch Cuban Chrome for inspiration then add an overrunning pto clutch on one wheel. Dang, one of you gearheads should build one that bolts on. Hey Lance, are you bored for lack of a project? BTW,how's cowtown treating you?

I have a Husqvarna deisel that has automatic differental lock and automatic 4 wheel. About half the time when you back it up then go forward the differental locks and you can't steer it. I complained about when it was new, about 10 years ago. Dealer said backup real slow and don't turn it when backing up (that is a problem)he said when it breaks in it won't do that. It still does it. I wish somebody else had it. Made by Ingersall Rand, I think. Got a good Kubota engine in it, Everthing else about it is junk.

Lean her over in a banking turn like a snowmobile.

The front drive unit from some Honda ATVs are Losenge based lockers that will slip with light acceleration, Might be worth the looking. Jim

I have one just like it, same problem. Go faster and lean to the outside, the inside tire will be off the ground. If you tip over and get hurt it's not my fault!

I have both a Honda 250 Recon (Straigt Axle 2WD) and a Polaris 570 sportsman. The Honda gave me that problem but the tires are so bald now its fine. Before I would lean to the side when having to make a hard turn, rolled it a few times but learned.
Polaris turns great, no problems usnless you're overloaded. Get the Polaris, get something that has Made in America on it.

I think almost every quad will do the same.

There are a handful that have an open diff with a locker IF you can find one.

The rest are turf shredders
