Gallon grader

Bought an old galion grader, can't find model number/year. Have serial number but can't seem to match with anything. Manual shifter, got a few forward gears going, but can't make it reverse, though I swear I should be in proper slot, but still moves forward. Have many questions, but mainly reverse and rest of shift pattern

Could you post a picture of it, and/or the engine
in it? I had a Galion 118 a few years back, it had
the 6 cylinder IH UD554 gas start diesel in it.
Seems like on mine the model and sn were
stamped into the frame rail by the engine, and it
also had an aluminum tag with same info,
maybe by seat support? Can't remember for
sure.

On the Gallon graders I have ran the forward and reverse was on a separate lever with the speeds on another lever. You shuttle on a lot of grader work so they make it easier to shuttle shift them with a spate lever and maybe even a separate gearbox.

An amazing thing is that this very site has an operators manual for a Galion 503 grader. "Galion 503 Motor Grader Operators Manual Part Number: GA-O-503 GRDR

Till you get us a model. or a picture, or what engine it has or just a little more information we are all just guessing in the dark.. Some of the older ones have a really odd have to get it over all the way to the left then up. May be out of the fork in the transmission or like JD seller says may have a shuttle lever.. Picture would be worth a thousand words.. good day

That sounds like this one, dual fuel, Detroit motor, trying to post pics

Look at the casting numbers on the transmission. A lot of those old Gallion graders used an Oliver engine over axle transmission. They were made in 2 sizes, the smaller one will have the letter D in front of the casting numbers, the larger transmission used on the larger graders will have the letter A as a prefix letter. Sounds like your grader has an older IH built engine, They used both 4 & 6 cylinder start on gas switch over to diesel engine till about 1960.

clean up the oil and grease on the floor, if I remember the one we had the pattern was cast in the top of trans right near shifter. Jim
