hello.. checking to see it there is any one out there using windows 10.. can you comment on it for me and maybe for others.is it better than windows 8.1. any problems, etc. thamks

Had it for a few days and went back to 8.l. During the transfer my favorites was lost. They just keep wanting to sell you different apps. Supposed to be able to go back to you previous program but could never find any reference to how to get back. Had to do a net search (How to remove Windows 10 from my computer) to find the return site.

I only use my desktop and don't need any more apps.. No hand held toys.

I think Glen's last statement brings up a good decision making point. The direction windows is going is more inline with Apple in that their UI is more designed to handle both desktop and mobile devices (surface). That being said if you are mainly a desktop user and not a heavy tablet user it may be a tough transition, I run a division of a software company so I'm pretty tech friendly, but it still takes some time to get used to. After getting used to it I like it. But if I tried to get my mother and father to switch to it, they'd probably pull the plug on the computer and throw it out the window.

I've been on versions of w10 for almost a year now and I like the release version much better then w8. The start button is back. But I like w7 better over all.

Before any upgrade always back up anything you don't want to lose. I always backup favorites, email, downloads, documents, pictures, anything I might have I don't want to lose.

The issue with my choice is the nature of Microsoft. I feel they are way too helpful trying to anticipate what I intend to do. They do this by harvesting my keystrokes and web activity through Phishing in the computer through linkages that are turned on at the install. They state that they can do with this information that which is in the best interests of MS (paraphrased). I am not a friend of that concept at all. I have intellectual property on my systems, I might search for solutions that can lead to advances in my profession as a professor, or financial gain. Just looking at a history of search patterns can lead others to the same conclusions.
It is possible to disable these connections to the """Mother Ship""" but it takes a dedicated, menu driven, and systematic effort to disable them all. When I must go to 10, I will make that effort in the hours after the install, or purchase of a new system. George Orwell described the issue of government intrusion in --1984--- Microsoft is not the government, and we let them (Both MS and the government) do it to us like a sick animal responds to care. Not a good deal. Read up on the issue. Find the keystrokes needed to disable the (more than one!!) snooping features. Jim

Why do people insist on using M$ products? Unless you use one of the application programs that only run on Windoze why not switch to Linux? Debian is the least intrusive that I know of. Most of the internet runs on Linux or BSD, most super computers run Linux, many countries around the world use it, the DoD uses it. The price is right and it works.

Had win. 8.1 then had to take a business trip & left the computer-challenged wifey alone with the computer. Win 10 "loaded itself" & I came home to a strange screen. But after fooling with it a few minutes found it was just Win 8.1 rearranged so left it & no problems.

started using it during the "preview" (beta). I first put it on the computer I'm typing this on, and like it so well that I put 10 on my netbook. Both of my son's have it on their computers. One son couldn't get his Rhapsody music to authenticate (Rhapsody needs to do an update). The other son says his Brother Laser printer won't automatically wake from standby mode (he has to push the power button on the printer), which is probably driver issue that Brother needs to update. I don't care for the new Edge browser, but IE 11 is still there if you want to use it (I use Chrome). I believe Edge will improve over time. You can split screen (2 programs on screen at the same time). The tile screen is a small area on the start button, and tile apps are not automatically full screen. If you go for Win 10 and you don't like it you can roll back to your previous version within 30 days.

We tried it on my wifes laptop for about a day. It stinks. It's for people who use smart phones and tablets, not for PC users. Simply awful IMO.

thanks for all the replies. it seems some like it, others don't..i admit upfront that I am not pc literate I only have one because my daughter gave me one. w8 is what I am using now, I get lotsa of headaches trying to use it.my problems seems to be ab emails etc.i am a xp type of person. I wish I had it back. maybe I can survive this

Without the government snooping, who would they prevent another 911? Google snoops even has a data base with your pics, verizon snoops, at&t snoops, the government a ton of info on you, so what if they snoop? I don't really care, I have nothing to hide they don't already know.

It runs ipv6 smoother than win8 or win7... so that is a plus.. it interface is fixed so you can use the menu the old win 7 way or use it the win 8 way or both. Its a new operating system so its not all bloated up like win7 with over 300 security patches, so its still small and fast.

Is it a bit different? yes the picture view and other free programs changed a bit, but it runs all my old apps just fine.

You can take it or leave it...

Because more web pages are moving to ip version6 I believe in the long run it will faster. Due to ip version 4 tunneling and other problems as some point ip v 6 will be much faster, but not necessarily today as most web sites are just now starting the conversion. Some web sites ran very slow on ip v 6 on windows 7, and a little slow on windows 8.

Yes some folks will bit$h about change, so its your choice. I have 4 out of 6 pc's running win10. On pc is too old, and on pc is waiting for amd to come out with a compatible video card driver, (which may be never.)

My wife has not noticed the change as desktop looks the same and all of icons are still where they used to be. So to her, its been a seamless conversion.
