Ford 3 point hay rake

I saw a nice looking rake on the side of the road yesterday. Is anyone familiar with the ford 3 point rakes? On the name plate it had a model number of 14-72. He is asking $900. Has a couple missing teeth. Otherwise looks to be in great shape. Any idea of its worth?

Thanks, Ryan

I have one of those. I do not use it because the teeth cost around $4 each and being mounted on rubber they tend to not last very long so I keep using my IH 5 bar rake instead. As for what it is worth I have no idea

They are a fair bar rake. The rubber teeth will age and will break all at once when the rubber deteriorates. So they would need to be replaced as soon as the rubber shows signs of aging. There are after market teeth that are around a $1.50 for these rakes.

As for the price. $900 is in the middle of the market for them. I see rough ones go for $500 and real clean ones go for $1500-2000.

They were made for a true Cat I hitch and PTO. A Cat II hitch can make them a PIA to hook up.

The teeth are on rubber mounts and as they get older the rubber tends to get hard and then break and then the teeth go bye bye and cost twice what the IH teeth cost

The only tractor I have right now other then my h is my farmall 300. I do have the 3 ph adapters though. Maybe I didn't look close enough but I did not see that the teeth were mounted to rubber.

Thanks, Ryan.

I have two of them and like them. Rubber mounted teeth were an option - mine are coil tine steel. $900 would get a pretty nice one around here.

(quoted from post at 16:04:47 08/30/15) Remember you have to have a tractor with ground drive pto, like a ferguson to run the rake.

I used to run a Ferguson 3 pt rake without ground drive PTO. Just a matter of selecting the right gear.
