mf 243 fuel shut off solenoid problem

I have had tractor 1 year, yesterday it shut off as if key turned off traced to blown 5 amp fuse replaced and ran OK 15 minutes or so, shut down again replaced fuse again ran until almost to the barn shutdown again, replaced one more time and as soon as it started shutdown, still sitting in the pasture. Not an electrician any help out there?
 
Check the wiring harness out and make sure it is not shorting out to ground. If you have an AMP meter hook it up to the pump coil and see what it is drawing. The coil could be bad but it is more than likely a bad wire some where.
 
I suspect that you have a wire that has rubbed through and is shorting to ground. As the tractor moves and vibrates, the wire contacts a ground point and blows the fuse. You replace the fuse, and the next time it touches, the fuse goes again. Also possible that the fuel shutoff solenoid is failing. Worth a look.
 
Dave, over the years I have seldom seen a fuel shutdown solenoid fail or short, but since the beginning of the year I have had three through my little shop, a Bobcat with a Kubota engine, fuel solenoid failed with "open" windings, and wouldn't start, a Deere commercial mower with a Yanmar engine, fuel solenoid would intermittently short and blow a fuse, and a 1995 Chevy 6.5 diesel that had an intermittent shutdown that a couple of guys before me tried to track down, I got lucky while test driving it, the solenoid failed with "open" windings and it never did restart 'til I replaced it.

I agree the jim, run a fused temporary power wire to the solenoid and see what happens... if that fuse blows, the solenoid obviously shorts, if that fixes it, you have to careful examine the wiring harness for damaged that is causing an intermittent short.

Just BE CAREFUL, as with the temporary jumper wire, as all safety switches and shutdown with the key will be disabled!
