I've never in my life seen this. I've been drug in to find a solution. Help!

Neighbor lady is having chickens lay rotten eggs. I mean VERY rotten. The kind that make you throw up and go off feed for the rest of the day, rotten. They may not be rotten at gathering time (as she can't tell there's a problem then) but withing 24-48 hours they are very bad. She can't quite tell if it is coming from her new laying pullets or her two year old hens, but believes it is both places. I'm thinking there has to be a bacterial infection of the birds. There's no other way it could get into an egg.

Yes, they are gathered daily and none are missed. Ever. I farm this gal's ground and she is super meticulous about bedding and gathering. I think she has something infecting that barn. She has a batch of turkeys and one of them has a perforated craw. Another thing I have never seen. Might be coincidence, but could be related.

I've raised lots of birds but never been this. Anyone?

There are several thing that can cause the rotten egg laying issue. It is a bacteria issue with the hen or feed. Here is avery good article talking about it.

We had this happen 10 years ago or so. We depopulated the hen house and let it set empty for a few months. We then disinfected the entire building prior to restocking the hen house. That solved the issue. We never were 100% sure if it was the feed or the hens causing the issue. We also did not eat any of the slaughtered hens for fear that they might be carries.
