After putting gas in the hydraulic tank, I flushed it 2 times. Ran it between flushes. This morning I put it to work, but ran the engine slow. All seems to work well. Thank God no major damage. The hydraulic oil normally get around 140 degrees. I took the fill cap off and could feel the heat coming out not to mention the smell of gas.

Got to thinking, isn't gas refined using a process called fractional distillation. So what temp does gas bubble out of the crude oil? I'm thinking if I vent the tank the heat generated by the pump may help get rid of the little remaining gas.

I plan to flush it out a few more times, but each flush I leave about 25% of the contaminated oil in the hydraulic cylinders, pump, torque motor and hoses.

I'm impressed with the strength of the, terramite T5D.

Since the War, crude is refined by catalytic cracking rather than solely distillation. That way they could turn a barrel of crude into a barrel of gasoline.

Your thinking is correct though in that as the oil gets hot the aromatics (gasoline) left in it will basically boil off. Since you've done the flushing I think you are better than 90% clean. If you can leave the cap off and cover the opening with dense cloth like a diaper or something and run it you will be able to accomplish what you're talking about.

I could have used one of those this morning; digging up the yard to get at the septic tank.

It will eventually boil out. The boiling point of raw gasoline in an amazingly low 100F! Obviously there are additives to raise it, but to what I don't know. But, at operating temp it will be wanting to evaporate. You should see the level drop as it evaporates, once the level stabilizes, could assume it's all gone.

Might try letting it run with the cap off, that would speed up the process. Move everything through and drive it a little to clear the motors, hope for the best!

Maybe keep in mind that you will have raw gas vapors floating around. You might not want to smoke or start fires nearby.

I purchased a T5C 7 years ago. Liked it so much I recently purchased a second one a T5D for my place in country. I'm to old to lift and use a shovel. I'll never be without them.
