Been trying to get my 1930 regular running I bought a few months ago. It set out in the weather for about 5 yrs, was running when parked. got good hot fire to the plugs and fuel to the carb, compression seems good. but will not even try to start. Have tryed to pull start but still nothing, pull plugs out and they are dry as if not sucking fuel in the combustion chamber. thanx for any help or advise

Pull the drain plug on the carb bowl, catch what comes out.

May be water, may be dry, may be rusty goop. If it's dry, the needle valve is stuck in the seat or the float is gummed up. Sometimes lightly tapping the side of the bowl will get it freed up, if not, ease the bowl off, clean it up.

If there is water or rusty water, may need to drain and flush the tank. Be sure the sediment bowl screen is in place.

Are you getting gas to flow into the carb? If you are, then your problem is something stuck or clogged in the carb. I would pull the carb off and take it apart. There aren't many pieces. I'd clean them up good with carb cleaner and reassemble the carb. Before reassembly, I like to drip some oil onto the needle/seat valve to make sure it won't stick. Install the carb back on the engine. Then check your gas in the tank. You may need to drain it all out and start with some fresh stuff.

If you're not getting gas flowing into the carb, you're either very low on gas, or there's some blockage in the sediment bowl or fuel line. You could detach the fuel line from the carb and if no gas comes out, blow hard into the fuel line. This can often free the blockage somewhere up in the line. Of course, this means that the next project is to clean out all sediment and debris from the gas tank and fuel line and sediment bowl.

Failed to mention I have cleaned the tank and put sealer I it and been through the carb. got plenty fuel getting to the carb but no further. took valve cover off and checked to make sure valves are opening and closing

We have a 29 and the float is bad about sticking.Once you get it running it will start with one good crank....be careful it will kick back....I learned it the hard way!

Try pulling the plugs and putting some gas in the cylinders. If it pops then, you know there is still something wrong with the carb. Also, "compression seems good" and an actual compression test are two different things.
