OT Air Rifle re-visit

Wanted something for pest killing that wouldn't draw attention. I have about 6 acres with my house backing up to a mountian, hill I guess, Texas mountain. Nothing behind me for 5 miles but I can hit the City Hall with a rock. All kind of varmits come off that hill. I ordered a Browning 22 cal air rifle. I took it out to shoot and the rear sight was as far to the left as it would go and the rifle shot 4 inches to the right at 25 yrds. I sent it back and got a replacement. I shot it 3 times and the safety locked and I couldn't release it. These weren't cheap guns. I sent it back. Somebody suggested, on here, that I get 22 rimfire and a silencer. I checked into that and it cost $200 dollars for fees plus a lot of red tape. I wound up buying a long octigan barrel Henry 22 and some subsonic 22 short amo. It doesn't make as much noise as the air rifle did. I opened my front door one cool fall night and there were 5 fox 3 coons and a skunk under the guard light on my driveway catching crikets.

I don't think you will have much luck shooting those varmits with .22 sub velosity. I tried .22 shorts on rock chucks here a few years back, had to shoot them twice. you don't want a skunk hit just a little!!

Be sure to clean your chamber after you have shot 22 shorts or your Henry will not work well with long rifle ammo it will leave powder residue that will become hard to remove if left uncleaned. shootings fun Randy

I love my Henry Golden Boy rifle. Action is really smooth. Bought my grandson his first Henry Youth 22LR Last year when he turned 10 bought the 2 grand daughters Rugar 10/22 only because they were a little lighter. When the other 6 turn 10 they will get one also.

Federal long rifle in standard velocity out of a decent length barrel are pretty quiet and accurate. Who knows if you can even buy any anymore ?

Please don't shoot those animals with that ammunition. You will only wound them and they will die a slow painful death. I think you would enjoy watching them out in that big back yard. I know I would. Now if the yotes move in that is a different story. But obviously there are not any there because the other animal are still alive.

I'm with you on that score. Unless you have some chickens you need to protect, but even then a good fence will keep them out. BTW those critters will keep the mice and rats from reaching your house. That alone is a good argument to keep them in your yard.

I really like having foxes and skunks around.Watching kit foxes is a hoot.Skunks will rid an area of grubs and vermin in short order. If you have poultry, sure they can do damage but if you secure them at night you won't have much of a problem.Racoons:too crafty to be easily fooled.Coyotes will kill small to medium sized livestock but if calves are mixed in with grown cattle the yotes know better then to mess with the calves.
All in all I like having most all(north american) wild animals around.

Yep, I agree, dont shoot something if it aint hurting anything.

That being said, if you could ever find an older Benjamin air rifle, they are great. My dad bought us one in about 1970. Walnut stock, pump up, brass alloy barrel and workings. It is .22. I have killed racoons, possums and squirrels. I pump it 5-6 times for sparrows and starlings around the purple martin house. 8+ for bigger varmits.

I think Sheridan also made a .22

I don't kill indiscrimnatly, but I have one pecan tree and the squirils and crows strip it every year. They start when the pecans are still green. They have already started on it this year.
