Ariens Emperor clutch spring

Trying to fix this machine for a friend. The idler arm spring broke and fell off. I made a new spring link and am trying to see where it connects at the other end of the spring from the idler arm. Any help will be appreciated.

Does your friend have the owners manual? The parts break down should give you a good idea. If not, maybe a Google search will reveal something. More than likely, that Ariens was built by MTD.

No owners manual. I found a diagram of the idler arm and spring with a spring extender link but it is floating in space. I assume that it somehow has to connect ro the clutch pedal linkage but working upside down in a dark barn is not the easiest way to find the linkage. I might just have to pull it outta the barn and put it on my trailer where I can actually see the linkage!!

Searching the internet yielded nothing informative.

I just found a diagram. It is not clear what the spring connects to but as of right now this is all that I have. Was hoping someone actually had one and had worked on it. It is saved as an rtf file so I can't attach it.

Look for something that appears to have had a spring attached to it. The paint should be worn off.
