chopping corn in ohio

Anyone else started yet or done ? It seems early this year to be chopping corn ? but it must be ready early.

A neighbor has some early planted corn that looks like it should be ready to chop in a week or so here in NWIA. He will harvest it for grain but it's getting close to chopping stage. I heard of a little corn chopped for some early feed in the Storm Lake area. Around here chopping normally starts around clay county fair time which is a couple weeks away. My corn would be a long ways away from chopping.

I had a couple of errands last week that took me out by Buffalo and Dunkirk and points in between. I would say the corn is out close to four weeks before it will be ready to chop IMO. Not going to be an early harvest.

No one around us feeds cattle anymore, just jump in the combine cab, turn the radio up and go.

Had the early guys started 10 days ago, the rest of them are starting. I my not chop any this year, still have a silo full and made a lot of hay. Plus I need the grain, I ran out a month ago, been buying shelled corn.

Around here the first crop harvested is seed corn. I have been seeing some machinery out and getting tuned up, but have not seen anyone in the field yet. Within 2 weeks I am sure they will be at it.

Not Ohio, but dad is chopping corn in Missouri today. Not very sophisticated, but it should work fine. Another bumper crop of corn that is economically going to be worth nothing, so I guess it makes sense to chop it up and feed it to something that is worth the effort, the cattle. If we get real lucky, the corn might actually add some value this winter and there will be lots of fishing worms under that pile next spring! Oh well, at least the White 2-180 is getting some much needed exercise.
