I have windows 8.1 is there anyway to block some of the emails that now end up in trash folder. then I have to emty the trash folder.. I can get several emails into the trash folder in a very short time

Setup a gmail account and have your current email forwarded there until yo get everything switched to your new address. That's what I did. I had a ###@core.com account that was getting spammed like crazy. I had it forwarded to gmail. I had to go into the gmail website and do a lot of marking spam as spam and look in the spam folder and unmark good mail as not spam. The spam filter learns fast what you want. I have since canceled my @core.com account and rarely get much spam.

I do use an email program called Thunderbird so I don't have to go into the gmail website very often, only for a maintenance and cleanup.

thanks for the info. i'll try .. I just don't like clogging up the pc with unwanted junk

Neither did I! Also the wait time and bandwidth to download all that spam is atrocious. Need help let me know.
