The flea issue is not going good used borax and those bombs (fumigators) Took out rugs too!! Decided to call orkin too. Question is what pesticed can I spray (not the 1% junk from hardware store) any more thoughts would be helpful. Friend is having real issue here.

Worked one time with a plumber out of Toledo, OH that had that problem. He "solved" it by taking garlic pills, the fleas would not bite him. Another way is to put small white dishes on the floor with a little liquid dish detergent with some water. Put a small light over them at night and the fleas jump into the water and drown.

Does your friend have household pets ? If so treat the pets with "Program" or other equivalent flea control. Program works..a few drops on the back of the neck and the pet becomes the flea trap. Fleas land on the pet, bite the skin and die. Eventually the treated pet will kill all fleas in the house. We had two cats, just treated one and it tok care of all the fleas. Vacuuming the carpet only works if you remove the vacuum bag outside to the garbage pail , you can't leave it with the flea eggs in the house. Orkin should be able to do a good job , however my experience was using the pet to be the flea control and within a week or so we had no more fleas in the house or on the cats.

hit a farm store and get 10% permethren mix. mix it strong and spray the house. that will give you an immediate knockout.

fleas hatch weekly, so in 5 days, spray again, and finally in 5 days, spray again.

now.. if you have pets, bathe them in a flea shampoo or ( dogs only ) plain shampoo / dish soap, plus some of that permethren.

clean up their bedding.. if they stay ont he porch, get that loose hair out, clean porch.. pressure wash, etc.. then spray.

if you wash bedding.. put it in the dryer too.

yard: treat with some good pelletized granuale like triazacide. might have to hit it heavy, and then do it monthly.

that 10% mix spray can also be applied to the yard for immediate knockdown, it just won't last long.

Bayer makes a blue bottle product, a later gen form of an 'etheren' starts with a 'C' cyclo something. it's good on plants / yard, long knockdown power, but slow to get going. so I always mix the permethren with it and then spray it to get immetiate results, then long lasting.

once you treat yard with spray and granuales, wash pets, and preferably treat them with something, and treat house with spray... within 3 weeks you should be flea free, with a huge drop at day 2, and the other 2.9 weeks just being maintenance to pick up new hatches.

diatomatious earth is a good sprinkly for the pets.

there are other natural remedies that can be used around bedding and cages. clove oil, mint oil.. etc.

remember, cats don't tolerate the same permethren concentration as dogs.

use flea collers as per their recomendations. some cats and dogs don't do good with them.

bedding cleaning is a MUST.. smae with rugs

carpet is the worst..

there is a sprinkle in and vacume up flea powder.. if you have carpet.. I reccomend that.. or cattle / livestock dust sprinkled down and vac'd up ( good ventilation ).

cover fish bowls!

Diatiamouns earth. Spelling check could not even help Its small shell of some kind, also wormer for sheep, cattle

You took the words out of my mouth. I suggested it before. I guess he didn't take me up on it.

Edgar Montrose would use a couple sticks of dynamite! lol

Boric Acid, This is the active ingredient in most roach powders. It is in powder form it works by drawing the moisture out of the fleas and killing them.

I may get bashed for this--- But that is one reason I have never had a dog or a cat in the house.

There are several other reasons as well.

Thats Borax, says he tried it. I dont believe he kept it up long enough to know that it is working. The life cycle of the parasites means that even if you kill them all, more are about to hatch. Just keep it up with vacuuming often and dousing the pets.

We use demon max in our rentals. It works good its available on ebay or amazon as a concentrate. Runs about 25 bucks with free shipping.

I used ant and roach spray once. One brand in particular. I'm just not sure what I can mention on here.

That stuff will kill a lot more than ants and roaches but you have to get it at the source.

RT (my 2 cents.)

The fleas you see are adults, they only account for a small percentage of the problem, the biggest percentage is in the other stages of life (eggs, larvae, pupae ) mainly eggs though. Be very clean, meaning to keep animal bedding washed, vacuum/mop floors as much as possible. Fleas are parasites, so they need hosts to survive, if its not animals, then its you, keep your bedding and furniture clean too.

Some independents or experienced pest control companies may not be interested in treating for fleas. The reason is most consumers expect a single treatment and one time pay for service. Treating for fleas can be elaborate and involve a lot of labor for the customer on his end along with chemical treatments on the pest control end. This is similar to roaches, if you don't clean the place up they may be very hard to control.

Flea egg life cycle is up to two weeks, so if you are not taking care of the eggs you will see fleas in the next two weeks. Female fleas lay eggs all the time, every day and they will also fall off animals or hosts so they may be strung out wherever the hosts travel.
