Carburetor information/knowledge

I am new to this forum. I have a ford 8n tractor. The serial number is unreadable but I'm sure it's an 8n because I've had one before. I am wanting to 1) find out how hard it is to install a new carburetor and 2) which kind do I need, and the cheapest.

I am not a mechanic but I do have fairly good mechanical skills, I think. I also have a good bit of tools. I also know nothing about carburetors, but I really don't want to know a lot about them other than installation and maybe setting and adjusting the screws correctly.

After looking closely at what I have I see no problem unhooking and rehooking the 2 top bolts and gasket and I think I can remove and re-add the air hose on the left. But I am curious how hard it is to remove and reconnect the 2 linkage arms on the back side without screwing anything up. I think 1 goes to throttle and 1 to the govenor, I believe. And as a note, I just had a new govenor put on.

Any help would be appreciated. I can supply pictures if need be.

Transfer this to the Ford Forum and you might get more and more accurate replies.....for those Ford lovers who don't surf the whole
site.

linkage on gov & throttle is just a spring loaded collar that fits over a ball on carb. to release, push the end away from rod, [you feel spring] pull away from carb. find ford 8n/9n on discussion' site menu on left sidebar.

I'd of sure thought those were all the same carb. ? Easy to change and adjustable too.
What does this site sell for them ?

Things that come to mind.
1 What is your tractor doing?

2 Why do you think a new carb will fix it?

3 Where are you located, maybe someone close can help you. ( we are a real nice groupe of guys)

Welcome to the forums!
As stated, all of us on the "N forum" on this site will help.
Tell us what it's doing.

If you need it, I rebuild them for less than a new one.
Rebuilt you get to keep the original, proven, Marvel Schebler
instead of something made of pot metal at some off shore
location. Many times that alone is worth its weight in gold.

That would still require you to take it off and put it back on.
As stated, the rods are spring loaded over the ball ends.
Easily done with your fingers. Nothing difficult there.
Picture shows the ball ends you are taking them off of.

My email is open if you'd like help or to discuss a rebuild.

Much thanks for everyone's feedback. I think I can install a carb. Now I need to try and find one for around $100. If you know of any please send the link. Again, thanks.....

Royce,
Thanks so much for your help and helping me get my red belly back up and running. Your carb solved the problem. Thanks also for all the time you spent with me on this. You are now my tractor guy.
Thanks, Mitch
