Allis B Timing

I have an Allis Chalmers B and its not starting so I wanted to time the magneto but all the websites I looked at said I needed a hand crank but I don't have one. Is there a way to time the magneto without a crank or taking apart the engine. Also if you have a picture of the throttle for a Allis B that would be great too.
 
Make a mark where the tower goes to the plug on the body of the mag rite where the cap fits. Now remove the cap and watch when the mag impulses the rotor is lined up there when it fires that means its in time. Does it start good now if it does you are in time
 
Where there is a will there is a way! Jack up one rear tire and crank away. First gear will work the best for this. If it has a power take off you can engage it and turn the shaft with a pipe wrench. Much easier if you remove all of the spark plugs.

hy do you say FIRST? I say HIGH.
 

If you take out all the spark plugs, and the fan belt is tight, you can turn the engine with the fan to line up the timing marks. Before you line up the timing marks loosen the mag mounting bolts and rotate the mag towards you. Then line up the timing marks on the number one piston on the compression stroke. Then slowly rotate the mag back towards the engine block until you hear the impulse click. Tighten the mag bolts and you're done.
 
I took the spark plugs out and put the PTO in gear but I couldn't find the marks on the flywheel to indicate it's in TDC.

Here's a trick I used once. Turn the engine over, with the fan and you finger over the number one spark plug hole. You'll feel the air pressure when the piston comes up on the compression stroke. Now poke a thin rod into the plug hole so you can feel the piston move up. You'll want to stop turning the engine when the piston reaches the top of the stroke. At this time you can look the flywheel over to see if you see the timing mark, and make sure it's lined up.
