I did some very rough math and I would come out a few hundred below I figured this in at 5 acres with the rent at 250 an acre I dint know what a current price is on that but I did
research and figured it was somewhat close same as seed fuel and fertilizer plus fuel cost I think I would need to find more land to come out ahead I will talk to a local farmer that I
am very well acquainted with what his idea would be. I have enough tractors the only equipment I would need which would be a good sized disc and planter but we work together to
help each other out so I could always use his. Thanks everyone for the help I will keep everyone updated with what happens

Nick I do not know where your located but $250 will not rent any ground in North-East Iowa that will produce a crop. The sugar sand is renting in the $350 range here and it takes perfect growing season for it to yield. In a year without July rains it will yield ZERO.

I wish everyone could farm and make a profit/living grain farming but it is not going to happen in today's grain market. The market price of corn/soybeans has fallen faster than the input cost have. Established farmers with their numbers all worked out are going to struggle to make profits this year and maybe next year too. We are on the down hill side of a boom market. The one to make it are the ones that saved the profit from the "up" side of the boom.

Your a young fellow just wait a while for things to stabilize and then try what your wanting to do.

The Minneapolis newspaper ran a story projecting average $247 an acre loss on corn crop this year, and close to that next year.

Always interesting times down on the farm.

Nick if you hunt around and talk to enough people you may find land reasonable. However in part it depends on where you are. Talk to people that have old pasture that is growing over especially. I pay $50 an acre for most of what I rent and have another 25 acres that are mine to work for free as long as I do it organically. Another 10 acres I trade a dozen eggs a week for and 6 young processed roosters for. In my area it is relatively easy to find ground as long as you talk to people.

SESD new soybean field after alfalfa. I did the Field prep, fert, seeding, spraying with my equipment., two RU spray I am input at $140 now. Scouting shows about 50 bu harvest. $9 selling price? Net $280/A?
