My reliable boots are giving up the ghost. My Dad gave me these boots. He bought them, didn't fit and gave to me. I've worn them for
YEARS!!!!! Snow, wood cutting, mowing grass, around the farm chores they have been the BEST pair of boots I've ever had on my feet!

Sole is starting to come off, so time to find a new pair.

These boots were made/sold by Mason shoes. They are American made. I believe all boots now, including Mason are outsourced to China.

Any American made replacement recommendations?

These boots are uninsulated - good for hot weather and they have a smooth sole, so no dragging mud in the house - drawing the wrath of
Momma.....

Any boot. Recommendations would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
Bill

I still wear RED-Wings,not all their boots are made here,I buy the ones that are made in Minn.I'm hard on boots and they are the only ones I've found that hold up.

Justin make a very good boot, don't even have to break them in. Get the one's made in the USA, do not buy the Justin junk made in China.

Redwings they have some made out of the states, so watch out. I have a pair of 2238 (made in USA import materials) good shoes. There are designs made about the same made all USA. They take the abuse and hold up fairly well.

I also have a pair of 2280's those are china and garbage. Uncomfortable after a short time wearing, hot (though
says not insulated). I think they are starting to give only after a year. the more I wear the less comfortable they get.

Here's their website, see what they got.
Redwing shoes

HH boots are made in the usa and i've had very good luck with them. Cost more than chinese boots but have lasted much longer also.

Believe it or not, I bought a pair from my JD dealer about 4-5 years ago but don't wear them on a regular basis but they were comfortable from the first time I wore them. Think they are made by some popular boot maker and I was surprised by the low price (if you can feel that $120 is low priced). Wear them for "going to town" as my daily wear boots are some cheapies I have been wearing for about 4 years and they have held up well, especially since I abuse them by wearing in wet grass, mud, etc. Bought them at our local farm supply store. They are Double H brand. Heal caps almost totally worn off, toe worn out on the right one but they are still comfortable and I wear them every day. I have some Justin western boots I have been wearing occasionally since 1988. Very comfortable and wearing well. These are all pull-ons. Can't stand lace-ups any more as I spent 37 years in the Army National Guard and had my fill of lace-ups. I have looked at Red Wings and some other popular brands but couldn't find anything I liked. Just my $.10 worth.

I have a pair of Carolina "Logger" boots. LOVE them! Going on 2 years next month, and I wear them pretty much every day of the week, all day.

Have had to replace the laces 3 times, but they are still in good shape for sure!

Next pair will be from "JK Customs" in Spokane. $450 for a pair of boots, but they are friends, and he gaurentes me 10 years. Not sure I am sold on that... They will be custom built/fit to me. I paid $220 for these Carolina's, if I get 3 years out of them, GREAT!

Not sure if they are all made here or not but I have had good luck with Carolina as well, and Georgia boots. For me, the rubber cork type sole seems to last longer than the spongy rubber.

I have a pair of Double H boots. Pull ons, nice smooth soles, won't pick up mud. I would buy them again if they are still out there when the time comes.

I have been wearing the Danner Pronghorn boot. Gortex, unlined. in both the 6 and 8". I like them because they seem to be very tough, water proof, and basically no break in. I have a pair I wear everyday for three years in mud, water, walking in and out of muddy pivots, occsional corrals haven't had a problem one except for laces now and then.

The company that makes wolverine and cat boots was supposed to start making a cat branded boot in USA a couple years ago but where to find them?

Wolverine has a wedge soled boot that fits well but I prefer a heel on ladders and 4 wheelers. And I can't say too much about longevity because I spend a couple months a year on a 4 wheeler. The foot pegs take out the middle of the sole. But I can say that if you aren't spending about 150 or more on a wolverine they won't last long. They've got an 80 dollar boot that fits nice but they are no good except on a smooth surface. One day on the bike and the soles delaminated. Had a shoe shop glue them back together and they lasted 2 days.

I wanted to try some Justins a couple years ago but I can't wear slip-ons. Insteps too high. By the time they will go on my feet I'm swimming in them.

I went another route on my last pair and got a more hiking oriented Dickies branded boot at walmart for about 60. (I can never get to town when the shoe stores are open) They are comfortable, seem to be wearing well (they've outlasted the last couple pair of 80 dollar wolverines) and are actually waterproof! Couldn't believe it!

Of course if this pair lasts any amount of time, they will have cheapened them up enough by the time I need another pair that they will be junk. That's how walmart works. Got zippered hoodies there for a couple years that fit and kept me warm. Put a good review on the website and the next fall they fit a size smaller and are thinner enough that you can feel it even compared to one that's 3 years old.

Bought a pair or Wolverines, gortex, waterproof and all the fine stuff. Paid a hefty sum for them. I only wear them maybe a couple of days a month as I must dress up for my real work. Well they leak water bad. I call wolverine as the retailer will not replace them. Wolverine sends me a new pair and they leak water more so than the first pair. I just put mink oil on them if I plan on being in the yard when the dew is in. They do say made in China. I was very disappointed as I splurged for these low quality boots. Next time I will just buy a cheap pair from wal mart. That way I will not expect much and be so disappointed!

Well i have bought and woren Mason Boots since about 73 . The one pair i bought back in the first part of Sept. 1977 was a pair of the work Western boots to go with my brand new layed out decked out 1977 I H 4300 Eagle I wore them everyday EXCEPT while loading or controlled unloading , Mason said that the soles would out last the uppers . Well here it is coming up on Sept of 2015 and YEP i still ware them but for how much longer ??????? as the leather is starting to dry rot even though i have polished them and all they are still dyeing as the one pull loop ripped , but the soles are still good along with the heels . Now the last pair i got from them was a pair of the 989 water proof and insulated , Lets just say that they are NOT the same OLD 989 Boot that i use to get , when they arrived they looked the same but were made in the land of almost wright . They did not come with the removable insole so i called and the LADY that i talked to told me to send them back , i asked her why not just send me the insoles , OH we can not do that you have to send the boots back and when we get the next SHIPPMENT in we will send you new boots . Well LADY i have waited for five months for these to come i am not waiting five more months . So i had to go buy a pair of insoles . Well this pair of 989's from China are not vary good and i should have sent them back and got my money back , the stitching around the toes is coming out the soles are almost wore out and i only ware them in the cold months when out and about and anymore that ain't much . I have a narrow foot and Mason is about the only one that offers boots in a Narrow size .

I want to say Red Wings because they are so comfortable and no break in , but they have become so expensive that I'm reluctant to say anything good about them. I used to use 160 dollar Red Wings then the model was discontinued and the replacement line was 230 a pair.

Ive been wearing Red Wing model 914 for years, they've gone from $150 to $300 in the past few years. I know a few guys that are happy with Whites brand boots, I might try a pair of those next.

get a pair of echo's I get mine at Tradehome. one of the most comfortable work boots I have ever had. Sole wear like iron

SIL worked in the shipping department at Mason shoes. She and everyone else lost their job when Mason outsourced to Asia. I see lots of complaints about the shoes that they sell now.

Justin makes an 8-9 inch, uninsulated, lace up, smooth sole boot. Pretty good pull on is their George Strait model

I bought a pair of hiking boots can't remember the brand right off from Dick's Sporting goods for the Summer they're lightweight, very comfortable, tough apparently as I haven't torn them up,waterproof and my feet stay much cooler than in regular work boots.Winter time I wear Rocky's.

I like HH lace up boots, I forget the style#. I don't think I ever got more than a year and a half out of any boot before the soles were worn out. I've tried several styles of Redwing that were supposed to be made in the US. They hold up well and are comfortable on my feet but after a few hours my legs begin to get sore. I never figured out why.

Honestly I'm tired of trying to pay more for better boots.

I'm starting to think it'd be much better to buy cheap boots more often.

In other words, what'll last longer one pair of boots for $180, or three pairs of $60 boots? I haven't tried it, but I'm starting to suspect the three cheaper boots will last much longer overall, and therefore are the smarter buy - as long as they're reasonable comfortable.

No fault of the high end boot maker's really, there's just only so much you can expect a boot to do and still be wearable.

Got a pair of Carolina CA1816 composite toe boots a few months ago. Great American made boots. Bought them on line at
Americanmadeboots.com
Great to do business with too!

I wore the expensive Red Wings for many years until I had a toe hurting and turning black. It turned out that my feet were getting wider in my old age. I got some Keens because they tend to be wider. I am on my third pair, though so far I have paid for just one, because the stitching in the back has failed. I found that I need to leave the top open in order to prevent it.

Are the boots beyond Shoe Goo? Good stuff, I have even filled the the outside of tractor tires with it after booting the inside of the tire. Walmart and other places sell it. MTP...

I've had "0" luck with wolverine.Walked away from the soles in in no time!

Ariat, with the square toe. They have grips on the soles to keep 'em from slippin. Made in Vietnam and the most comfortable, durable I've found. kelly
