belt-driven governor

I had posted about this on the Oliver site and got some useful comments but figured I would try here since it's not really an Oliver issue. I have an Oliver 77 with a Ford Falcon engine in it -- inline 6 170ci-- I would like to put a belt-driven governor on it. Would the belt-driven governor from a MF 510 or 750 combine or from a Gleaner combine go on that engine? If not is there a particular belt-driven governor that would adapt well to this application?

Thanks

Not going to mater what you get the governor from. Most are peirce but any belt driven one will work. You are going to have to make a mount and drive pulley. After that you just figure out how much movement you want on the throttle of your carburetor. Won,t be hard to do.

well well, u are in luck . yes the versatile 400 swather uses that engine and it has a belt driven governor, just the thing u need.

Massey 300,New Idea 701 and 702 Uni Harvester,Gleaner F I think had a 292 Chevy and used them if memory serves me right.

Should work fine. Most combine engines, etc of that era were fitted with Hoof or Pierce "universal" governors which can be adapted to work on most any gasoline engine.

Punch the link for detailed installation and adjustment instructions for Hoof/Pierce governors.

I have a cat roadgrader that I put a Ford 300 six cylinder in, I used a belt driven governor that came off a woodchipper I was told. Made a half inch thick aluminum plate to turn the carburetor 90 degrees to make the linkage work

Yes, the Versatile 400 windrower used the Ford 200 which is externally identical to the 170, so pulleys, brackets etc should bolt right up.

Onan has used the belt driven governor on generators for years. Works fine.Leave a little slack in the belt. To tight and it will destroy the governor.

I have a belt driven governor with a Ford part number.
Have no idea what it came off of.
Looks very much like this one.

(quoted from post at 18:33:19 08/02/15) Are you looking to sell it?

I think I'll hang onto it......I've got a couple of Ford 300 sixes and I need an engine in one of my Allis WD-45s.
Might be a nice project.....if I ever get a "rountuit".
