Death of a coon....

Sleeping soundly at 1:30 AM when all heck broke loose. Worst coon fight I ever heard and it went on forever. Our male black lab has to be tied at night because, even though he is neutered, he climbs the fence. He broke his catch so we let our female chocolate lab off and tied him to her dog house. She is a good size dog and she caught this coon back by the chicken pens and massacred him. Not a huge coon but from the sound of it he put up quite a fight. Not a scratch on the dog. That dog sure hates raccoons!

I have a yellow lab that is tied to a fairly large tree at night. My house is at least a quarter of a mile from a heavy wooded area. So far this year, he has treed three coons that, during the night, come up to his tree and he obviously wakes up and chases them up up the tree, the same tree that he is tied to. Those have got to be some really stupid coons to come right up to him. I then drop them during daylight hours with a .22 bullet.
I also have a border collie that chased one under the pickup a few weeks ago and he fought it out with the coon underneath the pickup until the coon died. I've never seen a dog so proud of himself when he polished that one off. He was on an adrenaline buzz.

I have a border and an Australian shepherd. One of them, as usual decided to take a dip down in the manure pit a couple of days ago, and I had to run them down to the stream for a a swim and a bath. On the way down, the pair of them spotted a groundhog out, and decided he didn't need to be around. It was a sight to behold! Ol' Grundoon would turn around and try to run, only to be confronted by the border, which is quick and got a few chews on his hide. Grundoon busted loose and tried to do a 180 and ran smack dab into the Aussies jaws. Bugger never had a chance!
