Last year some of you may have seen my problem. I got a call today to mow the weeds again in the same field. When I get off the tractor this time, the tractor WILL be in park. Stan

Similar problem happened here in Branch County this week. Score--Rose Lake 1, Jeep Cherokee 0. Seems a lady was backing her boat trailer down the ramp, got out, but forgot to put it in park. Only minor injuries but Jeep was pulled out of 4 feet of water by tow truck.

buddy did that a few years ago. He made the evening news standing on the roof of his SUV.

Something similar happened in my old neighborhood years ago. A farmer was making hay on a ridge with a brand new New Holland 77 baler and H Farmall tractor. When a wagon was full the guy loading the wagon puled the pin and the wagon took off down the hill. Apparently he was a slow runner, so the driver of the H locked the brakes and jumped off the tractor to help the other fella catch the wagon. Neither of them caught it and it went off the bluff and into the trees. While they were catching their breath they heard a noise and looked up just in time to see the H and baler heading for them. I guess the motion of the baler rattled the brake latch loose. Anyway, just as the tractor and baler were heading down the hill another fella was just getting there with an empty wagon on an old WC Allis Chalmers. He jumped off the WC to try to chase down the tractor and baler. Of course he couldn't catch it and stood with the other two fellas looking down at the mess. Well, about then they heard another noise and just got out of the way in time for the WC and empty wagon to join the other equipment already sitting at the bottom of the bluff. The driver of the WC must not have set the brake before he took after the baler and tractor.

I don't think it could get any worse than that. It sure is a helpless feeling to see your paycheck heading to sudden destruction. My tractor was stopped and the motor off. The mower was holding the tractor. When I started the tractor while standing next to it. up came the mower, and off the tractor went. The only thing that kept it from going completely down was the mower caught in the only ditch on the bluff. Stan

And when you launch your boat, Please, Please, Please don't keep the kids in the vehicle 'for their safety'. Get them out and anywhere else that is safe.

It's a bad habit to start a tractor from the ground. I do it a lot, and probably will get hurt someday if I don't quit doing it. Had a friend, who was always in a hurry, that stated a 4430 JD from the ground and it ran over him. The hind tire ran over his full length. It didn't kill him, but he did have to spend a lot of time in the hospital.
