Wife went into the bank yesterday to get some American green backs for or little trip through the sates ,on our way to Manitoba. 36% exchange. I am thinking there are lots of Canadians that will be staying home , and lots of Americans giving some though about a trip up into the frozen north.Looks to me like cross boarder shopping will not be as popular with Canadians as it has been in the last few years. I hear a lot of farm equipment is moving to the south of the boarder. For us here in Canada , getready for inflation to take off,we will pay more for every thing. But what else is new? Bruce

There was a clip on the radio that it is also a good time for us to visit Europe as the Euro rate is also good.

While over my head they said it has something to do with our nnalert.
When the Fed gets around to raising our interest rate the exchange will change.

We crossed into Port Huron a cuople of weeks ago.In the 10 or 15 minutes we were there, we saw at least 15 one year old pickups and a car carrier full of vehicles all with dealer plates heading into the US. Since the dollar difference is so high, many trucks are heading there for resale. Try finding a one ot two year old pickup at any dealer near the border.

I think you would come out better just using a credit card as much as possible, that's what we do when we go fishing in Canada, although we do get charged a foreign transaction fee. The Canadian dollar is worth .769 US this morning, that's the lowest I'v seen for a long time.

Daughter was complaining about that this week; says they might as well pay Vancouver prices than shop in the states. Son in AU says their exchange rate is worse than Canada.

Bruce, if you are crossing into Michigan, go via Sarnia/Port Huron---less congested than Windsor/Detroit. If you are travelling south of Lake Michigan, keep well south of Chigago, at least by 30 miles, you'll see some good farmland, and if you are interested, Polk Farm Auction is in Milford Indiana, just south of the Michigan/Indiana border, he's gotta have over 100 old tractors of all makes in the yard. Have a good trip, but I think you'll agree once you're back, that there ain't no place like home...

Bruce, whenever we travel from Wisconsin to Canada we ride the SS Badger, a 400ft ferry across Lake Michigan. Takes 4 hrs and you don't have to go thru Chicago. Ferry has a couple food counters, lots of room to sit and read or watch the water go by. Ferry ride is not cheap, but sure more fun than going thru Chi Town and you save a bunch of miles driving south and then back north.

Just search online for SS Badger; runs from Ludington, MI to Manitowoc, Wi. It can haul at least 10 semis and about 40 cars per trip.

There also is a new, smaller, and very fast ferry out of Milwaukee to Michigan; runs about 50 mph and takes 2 hrs. I have not ridden that yet....but I will!

Russ, when we go fishing in Canada a month from now, with the exchange rate what it is, we are planning on buying all our groceries in Ft. Frances...an extra benefit is we can easily keep things cool until we hit camp a few hrs later.

Hi
if that scares you Look up the English pound to the Canadian $. I'm just looking at importing a side shift full spec JCB backhoe from the U.K to Canada. as of this morning it was $2.03 and rising. It has been nearer $2.50 before to the pound. The next closest to the U.S $ is the euro at $1.43. Might have to play games with the currency and a cheaper country to ship from than the U.K if I can find what I want somewhere else.
Where are you passing in Manitoba ? this is my home province.
Regards Robert

Seeing lots of former Canadian tractors at the local consignment auction. They must be hauling in 5-10 truckloads per month. Other good equipment too, discbines, balers...

Going to a wedding in Winnipeg,on the 7th. I am reentering Canada on hyw 75, so we wont be as far west as Brandon. For us this will be a quickky visit. Wife has to be back to work on the 12th , and I have grain to harvest.

Hi
Thanks for the reply, I'm further up nearer Brandon area. Funny thing is i'll be on 75 heading south from Morris to Ridgeville, by the border where my buddy lives. I got to haul a round baler down with my ford 250 and a gooseneck, on the way back i'm bringing a ford county tractor with a cab on.
Don't know when you'll be that way if its before the 7th but blow the horn if you see or pass us L.O.L.
Regards Robert
