refrigerator leaking water

Normally water from the defrost cycle drains down into a pan in the bottom of the fridge, where it evaporates. Some fridges have a rubber tip on the drain line that lets the water drip slowly into the evaporator pan. If that nozzle gets plugged with dust or lint, as our Whirlpool did, the water backs up into the refrigerator compartment and freezes part of the coil.

I took off the nozzle, cut the end off of the nozzle to double the size of the opening, let the ice melt out of the coil before I restarted the fridge and that solved the problem. Manual may or may not tell you about this. You may have to remove the bottom portion of the cover on the back of the fridge to see the evaporator pan.

You might check the coil in the back. Ice can build up and then the heat of the motor will cause it to melt. You'll have to remove the back cover to check but if you do and it is iced up, use a blow dryer to melt the ice.

#1 is it a frost free unit?? If yes likely the drain pan/tube is leaking. I have one that does that once in a while due to the drain tube being bad and it has been rigged to work but falls off some times

Find where the water is comming from and fix that part.... simple.

Our Amana bottom freezer dutch-door fridge will drip water from the ice dispenser port if the ice drawer is not fully pushed back in following bulk ice removal. the ice melts and drains down the dispenser to the door and drips to the floor

Empty the freezer and remove the back panel in the freezer. The drain is plugged

I just fixed mine last week. I thought it was a defrost problem. It turned out the line going to the ice maker had a crack and was seeping out.
