The dreaded yearly exam

Today I went in for my yearly prostate exam. Never a good experience. After that humiliating time, I got to go and have some blood taken. I guess it's better to catch something before it gets out of control. Almost that time for the camera again. Another fun time. Stan

Getting old ain't for sissies. The older you get the more opportunities you have for a doctor to strip you of your pride and dignity.

Better than being dead. You don't recover from that. Prostrate and Colorectal cancer are two of the most survivable cancers with early detection. My mother died from liver cancer that was caused by Colorectal cancer. I will gladly suffer the indignity of either exam if it will save my life.

One of those "times" my regular doctor was on vacation. The covering doctor was a gorgeous woman that I noticed had skinny fingers. I thought "this won't be so bad". Then at the last minute she sends in this male nurse to do the job who had FRANKENSTEIN hands!.

Had one done by a woman doc once. She was a very good doc, but I was humiliated nonetheless. Later I found out this doctor's lifestyle didn't include men, if you know what I mean. I still didn't feel any better about it.

Mine was stage 4 colon cancer. Colon removed. Still monitoring. I'll drop my drawers and get probed for any exam. Thoughts of showing any decency left after that episode.

Mine is not the first and won t be the last they will see. Seems the female docs are a little less rough than the men.

Absolutely, the prostate exam is nothing compared to the other one at least, have one friend 4 years younger than I, had his removed already and so far he's ok, the other, you just don't want. Another friend 2 states east, works in the section where I believe its last call with cancer if you get my drift. One of his patients, a woman in her 20's, on her death bed, he said he could not give her enough pain medication as she was slowly dying, just a fact of life and cancer, this is nasty business, compared to the examination procedure. I'll be first in line when the doc says I need to, she said you'll have it done when your 50, insurance or something makes it so, that's not too far off now.... and she's the same one that examines the prostate, said you have one of a 27 year old last time it was done. Well at least some part of me is still young LOL!

PS, when I was around that age, had that prostate exam done, but the doctor sure was creepy, I never went back there again. The current doctor is the best, I was really sick a few years ago, she really did everything possible to help me. Don't bother me one bit being a woman doctor, she's quick about that embarrassing exam, like most I don't particularly care for it LOL! Its a medical exam that needs to be done and its sure good to know you are ok afterwards. My friend with his removed, did not have any symptoms, they caught it in some other test, he'd not be here today if this was let go, wife and young daughter, not good.

Yep at my age I have to "man up" (if you wanna call it that lol) and have that done once a year during the annual physical and as far as a Colonoscopy, I'm up to a 5 to 10 year cycle now due to past good exams. However if you consider the alternative POSSIBLE UNDETECTED DEADLY CANCER well its not so bad I reckon. I had a good friend die sometime back of colon cancer and the Doc told him had he ever had regular exams (which he NEVER did) theres a good chance they could have caught it early and saved his life. Sooooooooo I guess I will continue to "grin and bear it" lol

Im always tellin yall consult a local trained professional for legal advice instead of a tractor forum, guess that holds true for medical advice also lol

I no longer have to endure the dreaded yearly prostate exam; mine's possibly in a jar of alcohol somewhere. Am I lucky or what?

Just smile, drop trou and bend, and pray for a good report.

I have had 8 colonoscopies done because I seem to have a propensity for growing polyps. I will soon be 80. Had my last one done at 77. My gastro-enterologist said "this will be your last one." I am otherwise in excellent health, and my family doctor said "no, it won't." He also said that I would surely be dead of colon cancer if I had not had these done. So, in another year or two I guess there will be a "showdown" between the two--assuming, of course, that "four-score years" isn't my limited lot!

Had mine removed in 2002, operating room had balcony all the way around for the students to watch. When I go to have camera inserted for a look at inside of bladder a female does the prep. for the Doc and he usually brings 2-4 students in to watch, every 6 months.

(quoted from post at 18:20:52 07/27/15) Yep, Same here Jerry. IT's gone ! !

Same here...went thru that hell last year. Fortunately I have little after effects, I guess being younger helps in that regard - also helps to have an excellent surgeon. Call me one of the lucky ones!

I"ve never understood the bellyaching about either exam or procedure. What"s the big deal? Dr has the worst end of it.

never had a prostate check that way yet.
I warned my doc if he dares put his finger up there i'll knock him out cold
he just take a blood sample and has that checked for signs.

That's pretty much the way its done here now. Doc told me that there have been too many misdiagnosis both ways, and bloodwork is the best way.
