Cleaning a Carb

Is there a good way to clean a rebuilt, ready to go carb? It was painted, and I don't particularly wanted painted when they rebuilt it. Plus, it's the wrong shade of green.

Obviously I would rather have it run good then run bad and look the way I want it. But if there's a way I can have both, it would be nice.

Can I soak a rebuilt carb to strip the paint off, or is there going to be a bunch of gunk in the carb?

Thanks

Soaking that carb will cause you bit problems with plastic parts that maybe in there plus other things to boot. You might be able to use spray carb cleaner to remove the paint

Carb and choke cleaner or brake parts spray cleaners do a decent job. Get it good and clean and dry and I like to tape mask over any shiny brass or stainless steel prior to painting. Heres my painted John Deere B Carb.

you need to disassemble it and soak in the real carb cleaner and agitate every few minutes. give it an hr. then wash with cool water. the paint will be gone.

NAPA carburetor cleaner in a can with a basket will remove the paint as well as loosen any residue that can be dissolved. I quit buying carburetor cleaner in a spray can when I figured out it was cheaper to use GoJoe to clean my hands. I have never bought a ready to go carburetor and would be a slight bit miffed if I did and it needed cleaned. I boil a carburetor in soap water before I disassemble a used one. After I have boiled it I disassemble it while warm and then let it soak in a basket of carburetor cleaner for over night or longer. After rinsing I sometimes boil it again. It depends on how much of the gunk is still in it after rinsing. After this clear water and compressed air will work as well as spray cleaner in a can. I use drills, wire brush, taps and dental picks as hand tools to make sure the crud is removed from passages and threads. Kinda hard to be sure it is really clean without removing the plugs and jets.

This kinda stuff can hide in front of or behind jets.
