John deere 4430

I have a john deere 4430 with 7200 hours just bought it has quad range and the transmission light on the dash will flash sometimes at lower rpm and u can rev engine up and it will quit flashing also if you keep RPMs up it won't come on

I dont remember for sure, but I believe 30 series had the Service Alert light and Stop light. Which is coming on? If its coming on and off like that it could be the transmission filters. Have you checked/ changed those yet? It also could be it doesn't shift properly at low RPM. Not sure, haven't had a quad with issues in a long time.

Really not sure when the filters were changed when
the light comes on the sound of the transmission
changes the tractor still shifts good and isn't slipping

(quoted from post at 09:03:22 07/27/15) when
the light comes on the sound of the transmission
changes t

If tractor was my tractor it would get parked until filters were changed and pressure tested if trans sounds different when light comes on!!!!!!!!!

Ok thanks for the information I'm gonna change fluid and filters and clean the suction screen

I've got a 4440 - the filters all (and I do mean all) get
changed with the oil. I know it seems like a waste
but I never have a concern with anything or have to
wonder if a symptom is filter related. I dread doing
the 8430 because it is a deal to get started after
changing those fuel filters. They always run, though.

JD Seller should be along here soon. He knows
those old machines well.

Welcome to the site!!!! I see that TxJim pretty well covered what I would recommend.
1) Change the filters and oil. USE good oil not the TSC stuff. It does not have to be JD oil but a good name brand that is made for WET CLUTCHES!!!! Your Hi/LO on the Quad range and your PTO clutch all run in the hydraulic oil. I have seen cheap oil ruin these clutch packs.
2) Looks like your already thinking clean/check the suction screen. GOOD idea.

After you have checked out these things, run it for a test and see if your lights are still coming on at idle. Also look and see where the low idle is set at. Some guys have it real low like 500-600 RPM. I usually go a little higher on the 30 series 800-900. They slobber enough at idle when cold. If the light is still coming on get a pressure gauge and see what the lube pressure is at low idle an HIGH idle.

. Thanks for all the information I really appreciate I've only had this tractor for bout a month now it runs n shifts great now oil leaks anywhere has 7200 hours what kind of oil pressure am I looking for?

Some of that era were optioned with a weird nuts winter warmup hydraulic bypass line from the transmission . Eliminate asap.
Iirc Deere sells a high volume replacement transmission pump. It tends to make up for 40+ Years of seal wear and hardening .
