Farmall H Mowing

My daughter took some picture of me yesterday mowing Pucker But Hill at the Mother In Law's home place. I didn't know she took pictures sideways until I posted them here and I didn't mean to post the same pic twice. The pics really don't show the steep part that makes your but pucker...

I have a bearing going out in the transmission. It use to whine only in road gear but now it whines in all the gears. Front transmission input shaft seal is leaking too so I suspect it's that bearing. I'm hoping anyway.
The poor corn in the bottom ground sure doesn't look good this year. Got flooded out too many times.

One of my two H's has a serious growl in the trans, so it could be the same bearing. That one also jumps out of 4th gear, so I suspect it has problems worse than a bearing.

I'll keep my eyes open, maybe I'll find someone parting out an H with a bad engine but a good trans. Might be simpler to just swap the entire rear end. Meanwhile, the thing runs like a top and I have a log splitter that runs off the PTO, so maybe this fall I'll have a self propelled log splitter.

My good M has a rear end with lots of slop. I have a parts tractor in the back corner of the shed that didn't see much field work. I keep saying I'm going to swap rears when things slow down. It's been five years since I started saying that.

I spent a good number of hours on mine this weekend. I'm on a crew that mows our show grounds and then I mowed some around home. It was a hot one. Great set up though to cut a lot of grass. Be safe and have fun John.

Mowing around my place with something that heavy would really leave some ruts ! Been extra wet this year too here in Ohio.
