I need to put a pump on my notill drill to put starter fertilizer on wheat this fall. I have a small electric sprayer pump and wonder if I could use it. I know its only an on or off pump, not variable by speed but I think that will be fine for me.

So how do I figure out how many gpm I need for 5 gpa? Its a 15' drill going between 6-7mph
 
At 6.5 mph you are covering 11.8 acres/hour so to get 5 gallons per acre you would need to deliver 59 gallons per hour or about one gallon per minute.
 
At seven mph you will cover about 12 acres per hour or an acre every 5 mins.

A pump at 5 gpm would put out about 25 gallons in 5 minutes with no pressure restriction.

5 gpm pump should work.

If you aren't varying the speed of the pump then you will need orafices at each backflow unit to restrict flow to the rate you want and make sure they all get equal pressure. They should all have the same length of tubing for equal pressure. Also consider what it will be doing at the end of the row. In my case, I opted for a dip switch that kicks it off when the planter is raised. Raising your drill, turning, switching markers (or watching GPS), and turning off the liquid manually may be more than you want to do.

I spent my spring adding liquid to my 1760 planter. I went with all new parts from Sprayer Specialty. It worked good. The couple of places I wouldn't cut corners are on the pump and flow meter. It is a series (12 rows in my case) of clear tubes with weighted balls in it. You can tell when the unit is running and if any row isn't working correctly from the cab.
 
the drill was already set up for liquid when I bought it but the wasn't with it. I already have the small electric pump so I didn't want to have to spend money on the ground drive pump if I didn't have to. I plan on mounting a switch like you said, automatically shuts the pump off when raised.
