I was going to change the oil on my 901 I just picked up. I was planing on using 10-w40 with Lucas additive would this be good or do you guys recommend something else.
Thanks
Nick

Whatever oil you use make sure it's diesel rated (C something) on the API index. My personal recommendation would be a Rotella or Delo 15W40 diesel oil they're
diesel oils and have additive packages h that are better tailored to diesel engines.

SJ and SL is for gasoline motors.

For a diesel motor you need something that starts with a C.
CJ-4; CI-4; CH-4
There are many other C ratings from the past but all are obsolete now.

I usually recommend CI-4 or CH-4 for these old tractors because many people are always messing with the sulfur content of the diesel.
If you use the new CJ-4 oil with anything but ULSD (15ppm) you can cause problems.

The viscosity depends on where you live.
10 W-xx oil is good down to about 0&#176F
If it gets below 0&#176F where you live then you should use a 5 W-xx oil.

It does get below zero but I usually don't run my tractors to much in the winter. I was thinking about getting a snow blower for my 8N. I have been running 10w-30 in my 8N, and SAE30 in my 860. Are those oils ok for my gas tractors?
