Used airplane tires

Now that I know where to get them up here in the great white north could any industrial tire shop put them on my rims like any other tire? Could I do it myself with tire irons? Only asking because I'm thinking that with 18 or so plies they may be a lot stiffer than 'normal' tires.

Thanks. phil n

they are stiff
but it can be done with tire irons as the beads even on reg tires have steel bands that don't streach
where in the great white north did you find them I'm looking for a pair for an extreme weight and dudy
aplication that tears up anything else I've tried in about a yr
we wore out the used airplane tires that were on it after 15 yrs
need somthing with about 7000 lbs load rating

One of our Cockshutt SP combines came with slick bomber tires on; they rode real good, but wouldn't go through mud very well! At least they wouldn't dig the combine down, so it was easy to pull the combine out.

Our other Cockshutt had regular dual tractor tread tires that would get the combine stuck real good so it was hard to pull out.

If at all possible, get them on the rims from the tire company! These things are STIFF - unlike a "normal" tire! A neighbor got two, and took them to a tire shop. They FOUGHT both of them - and bent both rims - in the process of installing them. I know Gensco sells them already on rims to fit just about anything. Don't know if your supplier does the same.

Phil we sold some of them, Even with 20 years experience in the tire shop they were very hard to mount. I would not suggest you do them yourself. Be advised the inside of the bead will be cut down to somewhat normal thickness but the inside of the tire will be very rough where they cut it. The lip of the bead is different than a normal car or implement tire so they could not be mounted tubeless. We had to put tubes in everyone we put on. The very rough inside of the tire will shortly destroy a tube and we never found anything to 100% stop this problem. We would split an old tube down the inside center and try to put the new tube inside the old 1. That helped some but it was a great big pain to do-sidewalls in the tires are so thick and stiff. If you decide to tackle this yourself you will need something a lot slicker than dish soap to mount them. As stated in the previous post buy them mounted if you can.

Tire shop in Dell Rapids SD sells them. I would assume they mount them up if they are selling them.
