Oil filter for honda GX620?

I recently purchased a tractor with a honda GX620. Is there a good oil filter that
will fit the engine that doesn't cost as much as a honda filter? I'm not interested in
using a Fram. Not interested in a lesson on using OEM filters. What filter do you use
on your GX620?

I went to Auto Zone and they had a bosch filter for $7. I looked at it and it was too
small. So much for cross referencing filters. The filter currently on the GX620 is
about 3" OD and 2 3/4 long.

I use a AC delco filter on all my GM vehicles PF47E and they only cost $5. A honda
filter is over $10. If I had my filter wrench handy, I would remove the old filter and
see if the delco would fit, it measures 3" OD and 3" long. Not sure if the threads are
the same size.

Do a Google search for "ECore filter problems".
The "E" behind the ACDelco oil filter number "PF47E" tells me that you are using an ECore filter. They are actually made by the Champion Lab group and is owned by Rank, the same company that owns Fram. (Ironic that you won't use Fram, but your filter is actually made by Champ Labs, the same filter company owned by Rank/Fram) These are the same filters that WalMart uses when you get an oil change at your WalMart TLE store. These filters are why several of the new Corvettes have had catastrophic engine damage and you can Google that too.
You can get better filters at a lower price online. Or, if you can find it, buy "PF47" filters, the number that does not have the "E" behind it.
The PF47E will have an internal plastic tube. The PF47 has an inner steel tube.

You are right, plastic tube. I've never had an oil change at Wal-mart. However, the PF47E filter is what my GM dealer has put on my car for the past 10 years, so just how bad can the plastic filter be?

I will look for a PF47.

Speaking of sizes, all the cross reference filters are all over the place when it comes to OD and length. Go figure.

Just because a filter will fit does not mean you can use it! there are lots of differences internally. I have had good luck with Wix filters, they are highly rated and readily available.

Many times cross references cross to a filter that isn't quite right. On my Dad's Ventrac with a Vangard Diesel the one filter he used ended up being a wee bit bigger and got a hole rubbed into it. Lucky he saw the oil leak and shut it off.

Remember one thing: Unlike 20 years ago, ACDelco is no longer a manufacturer, they are just a relabeler.
Take a look down the center hole of your PF47E and you will see that the center tube that holds the media has too large of openings. The oil hits the back side of the media and actually tears the media apart because the openings of the center tube are too big. A hunk of media, the exact same size as the rectangular opening of the center tube, then goes through the center hole of the filter and clogs up the oil passages in the engine. This filter is susceptible to this when the engine and the oil is cold, or when the oil pump is pumping an extreme amount of oil, as in the case of a high-revving Corvette. In my opinion, there are only aabout half as many length-wise center media supports that is actually needed and that's why the media blows out.
The ACDelco PF47 (not the PF47E), is available at RockAuto.com.
I typed in my zip code and priority mail will ship you up to 12 PF47 oil filters (at $3.05 each), for ~$12 shipping by priority mail. If you buy more than that, shipping goes to UPS ground which goes into a higher priced shipping category. Go to RockAuto.com and click on "part number search", then enter ACDelco as the manufacturer and PF47 for the part number. Type in your zip code for a shipping cost. The classic PF47 oil filters will have the old steel center tube.

Up date. I removed filter and on the filter were 6 different filters I can use. The first listed was an AC delco PF57, $5. Honda wants $10. If a delco is good enough for my GM vehicles, I'm going to use it on the honda. Thanks to all

Going to need to bring you a case of Hastings in those for $2 also aren't I. I checked my bills again the other day, the kohler, Kawasaki filter is still $1.76.
