Dewalt 18v battery reconditioning?

Are there any places that recondition dewalt 18v batteries? I have a few old xrp 18 volts that won't hold much of a charge. I have almost all of the 18 volt tools, so I would rather not switch over to 20v, but new 18 volt are around $50, didn't know if there was a cheaper option than buying new. I tried some black unmarked 18volts off of the internet, but they are worse than my old ones for holding a charge. Thanks for any help or information.

Look on Youtube for doing it yourself or try Googling for cheap replacements (eBay?)

I had some Bosch batteries rebuilt by Interstate batteries. when I have enough bad DeWalt batteries I'm taking them to Interstate too. I dropped mine off at the store in Sioux City but you could probably leave them at any Interstate dealer. Also, if one of the little attaching tabs breaks off of a DeWalt battery you can remove six screws, pull the guts out of the shell and put the guts back into the shell of a DeWalt battery that has given up the ghost but has good tabs.

Check Amazon for your battery (s). I just replaced 2 - 24v Bosch units for $84 - free shipping. They both charged up and I used them some, but then the 'clamps' gave up. Contacted Amazon - vendor, new replacements on the way - I went over the 90 day thing, so I have to pay shipping ($17.60). Actual replacement cost locally was $124 each. Units come with 1 yr. warranty. HTH
Is there ANYTHING you can't get from Amazon (other than the obvious-fresh meat etc.)?

Go to Harbor Freight! I foolishly bought a cordless impact wrench from them--the battery failed (would not accept a charge) after a total of less than 30 minutes use!

Batteries plus I think is the place in Rockford Il. that rebuilt a Dewalt for me, if it's held together with screws they rebuild it. about $36., new one is $65., has worked good for a year. Also bought a China replacement for a Makita batt.,works good but doesn't fit very good.

Asked my boys if they wanted to see their Grandpa's old cordless drill? Out in the barn? Still works after all these years??? They were amazed, said YEAH! I said here, you hold this big end here with one hand, and crank the middle around and around.... works just like when I was a boy. They rolled their eyes but I think they got the idea.

Ni-cd are junk. Li-ions may be the best but expensive.
The best bang for the buck is Ni-Mh. I recommend you get the newer yellow charger, not the all black one, from dewalt. Or get a dewalt shop radio, it has a built in charger. The newer charger shuts off when fully charged, the old one doesn't shut off, just cooks the battery.
18v Ni Mh

Thanks for the information, I didn't realize there were two types of Ni batteries, I will give the MH's a try and get a newer style charger. I have heard the ion type ones don't work well in real cold weather, so I have never bought them. My original xrp batteries lasted close to eight years, all the other ones I have bought since don't seem to last much over two years, but we do use them hard and in extreme hot and cold conditions, Thanks again for the information.

If you have BatteriesPlus do the job make sure you [i:bdddf7df47]TELL [/i:bdddf7df47]them to upgrade to Ni-Mh when you take it in. :?
