Today is the first weekday since May 4th. that I didn't have to be at the hospital for my cancer treatment. I had the last one yesterday. The Bassett Cancer Center has a great staff, and the wife and I made some great friends. We quickly got on a first name baisis and the visits turned into a morning event. I copied off Jon's funny of the day, and BWM's this day in history, which everyone enjoyed. Several of the staff are into gardening, and we shared information and tips and did some bragging LOL. We didn't have a lot of time to BS, as they are on a tight schedule, that you can nearly set your watch by. We left the house at exactly 8:00am, 17min drive to hospital, in the treatment room by 8:30, out by 8:50 and home a little after 9:00.
They have a little cerimoney for each patient when they complete their treatments. The lady who gets treated just before me also finished here last also yesterday, so the staff took a a couple of minutes off for the two of us to ring the bell, and say our goodbys.
I'm kinda going to miss the morning get-together, but we have plans with some, to visit each other, on a informal baisis.
Many Many thanks to all the great people at Bassett Health Care, in Cooperstown NY.

Great news Loren! Glad to hear it! Now you'll have to start another project to make use of the extra time.

Health care places like that are great.

During a brief two day stay at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln, NE in February, one of my nurses was a granddaughter of a cousin of my mother's who my mother was very close to. She picked up on my last name.

Also, a physical therapist I was involved with was the son of a high school classmate of mine.

Staff like that can make all the difference in the world.

Glad you're doing great!

(quoted from post at 14:42:26 07/08/15) Today is the first weekday since May 4th. that I didn't have to be at the hospital for my cancer treatment. I had the last one yesterday.

That is good news.....I'm glad you are through with the ordeal.

A friend of mine is going to bassett for treatments also....
sadly, his prognosis is not so good.

My youngest granddaughter just finished nursing school in May and began her job as a registered nurse at Bassett on monday of this week.

She has a pleasant personality and I hope she will eventually become another staff member worthy of praise.

Finished mine in Sept of 2013. Texas Oncology was my treatment center, about 20 miles down the road. Had 6 ea 4 1/2 hour chemo treatments spaced 3 weeks apart. Been clean ever since. Every time I am in town I bring the nurses a wad of roses or a pot plant, something to cheer them up. Don't know how they do their job as many in there are basket cases. Didn't know how sick a boy I was.

Glad you are a "cancer survivor". Welcome to the club.

Mark

Good to hear things are going well and you've had a positive experience with the folks involved with your treatments !!!

Health care people are a special lot. Some of the nicest people I've ever met!

Praying for your complete remission, it's good as done!

good to hear that you are done with the treatments
also glad that others outside of the YT forums also enjoyed my history post
thanks for sharing it

Hope things continue to go good for you. Medicine has really changed in the last few years, some better and some worse.

I have been in two hospitals in the last two weeks, Carle, Urbana, IL and St Johns, Springfield, IL. First wasn't very good and the last waas great ALL the way. This is like insurance, you don't how good it is until you need it. My endocrinologist just retired after 25 years with her because of continued software and medicare changes. She and her staff were jewels helping me with my health and getting an insulin exemption CDL.

Hang in there and keep the pictures coming. I would love that syrup on some buckweat pancakes when I have low BS. We live close to Funks Grove, McLean, IL and get some from them.

Good for you! Always like the posts of clinton camp and the sugar bush. I was telling a friend about your milkweed post and we got to talking about golden rod tea, when I got home I googled it and found a website and thought of you. It is called "Eat the Weeds" not that I'm a tree hugger or anything but just like being resourceful and independent of others! Hopefully you continue to get good news...John

Brian,
I hope he isn't the young guy who has the first session ahead of me. He lives in the Little Falls area and works for a dairy farmer in the valley. He told me that the radiation treatments that he is getting now, is to kill off the cancer in outlying areas, and then he will have to get kimo to attack the real problem areas. That is a rough go for a guy that age and his insurance isn't that great.
