Deutz 8006 Brake Fluid What is it?

I have a manual, it only says to change the brake fluid every two years. No where in the manual does it say what type of fluid? Is it Dot 2, Dot 3 etc??? Anyone have any idea.
My brakes quit yesterday, while cutting hay, Normally if I know the brakes on a tractor do not work, or work well, I drive it accordingly, the brakes worked, but do not now, unless i pump the heck out of them,
then they kind of work, thinking there is obviously a leak, want to add fluid to see where, if I can... However, I do not want to add the wrong type....

Interesting... I have a CASE-IH by David Brown 1494 and manual states to use a mineral oil brake fluid, apparently some euro cars use the same stuff.

The reason apparently is that the slave cylinders are INTERNAL and any leakage winds up in the rear end/hydraulic oil.

I wonder if your Deutz could be set up in similar fashion?

It appears to have a separate reservoir for the brakes, basically like a car master cylinder, just wish the manual would say what to use. Do not want to use mineral oil if it has brake fluid, nor do I want to use brake fluid, if it has mineral oil in it....

IF it takes regular brake fluid , any of the dot fluids will work except the silicone fluid .(dot 5 ?) Can you stick your finger in the reservoir and smell it ? The mineral oil most likely will be odorless.

A test would be to put a drop of the current fluid in a glass of water. If its oil based , it will float or make a sheen on the water . The brake fluid will mix with it . If you decide it's an oil , Hytran works well...

Yes, definitely don't want to get the wrong fluid in it! Also when replacing master cylinder or wheel cylinder cups, they must match the fluid used.

You have a Deutz dealer nearby? I just called my ex-dealer.....he says to use DOT 5. DOT 3 is used for cars.

My Agrofarm uses Donax ta. Which is I think Shell type of auto transmission fluid. Mine has all wheel braking with master cylinder and a distribution block to go to each wheel. Can turn off front brakes if rear brakes are needed for turning.

It turns out when I checked the fluid last night, it was full, apparently no leaks, appears the master cylinders have failed. I will be without brakes until at least after 1st cutting is done, do not have the time to tear into it right now, at least I know they do not work now.
