Canadian fires

We've had this smoke haze all week. What is going on up there? I don't watch/read the news much, and have heard nothing about it. Is it a forest fire? dry conditions? Just wondering. Maybe there are some Canadian's on here that can tell us about it. Brian(MN)

Dry in Canada and Alaska, I always get a kick outa the news. Burnt 37 acres in California and a mansion! Meanwhile Alaska has burnt up around 1.5 million acres this year so far and I would bet a lot in Canada as well. Spent 35 years in Alaska and saw some awesome sunsets thru the smoke.

Over 100 forest fires burning here in Northern Saskatchewan. 1000's of people evacuated and no end in sight. Highways have been closed on and off. Some areas still haven't had rain since early April. Supposed to be strong airflow from the North today so smoke is likely to get worse again.

Thursday, Our forecast was to be dry and less humid. So I planned to paint after work. On the way to work the sun was red. Oh, Oh, going to rain today. No it was the smoke from Canada. It was a pretty sunrise though.

I remember as a kid, back in the early/mid 50s, when the smoke and haze from Canadian fires drifted down as far south as Ohio. The sun was a hazy, orange color for long periods of time. I don't know if those massive forest fires are common in Canada, but I do know that this is not the first one of them.

We get hazy skies from that same smoke here on the Southside of Va. when the winds bring it down. Just can't smell the smoke this far away. Local weather guy talks about it several days a week to explain why it's hazy. It has kept temps. down a little here.

Few years ago there were swamp fires to the south in Florida burning underground when the marshes dried up. Couldn't stay out in that long. Did a lot of coughing and watery eyes. Wind shifts and it blows on someone else.

Northern Saskatchewan, Alberta and Southern part of the Northwest territories are burning up...100 deg F........no rain and 100 year record high temps. Wind is coming from the North.

forest fires. i'm north of Edmonton. very dry hardly any rain since april, only got 1/4 " and 1/8" on a couple showers. canola did not germinate on higher land , now its poking out with the little moisture. big variation from blooming now to sprouting. crops very short and heading out. its one crazy year. first hay crop is cut and baled, no rain ha ha! can see a shortage of hay this year with those high priced cows. maybe next year grain prices will be higher??

As others have said, it's smoke from forest fires in Canada. It's been on the twin cities news and weather broadcasts for most of the past week. Sometimes we can smell smoke in Central MN. It's getting thick enough to issues some health warnings for NW MN & North Central MN.

David G,
Is it possible you are smelling the pot smoke from Colorado? That's been going on for a while.

Surprised the environmental groups haven't gotten a law passed banning wild fires that are causing this air pollution.
